    Description:

    CIM is a service organization that provides basic health screenings and preventive health education to the medically underserved. Members partake in tutoring and mentoring programs for high school students. CIM services all ages, ethnic groups, and genders throughout the Lansing and southeast Michigan communities.

    Description:

    The Great Lakes Education Program (GLEP) introduces fourth-grade students to the unique features of the Great Lakes through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on experience. The program is designed to stimulate interest in the Great Lakes and help students understand their role in protecting these vital freshwater resources.

  • Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program

    Applicants attend classes in their county.

    Description:

    The Michigan Master Gardener Program is a horticulture education and volunteer leader training program offered by MSU Extension. It provides home gardening information to Michigan citizens through a network of trained volunteers. An interest in plants, a personal commitment to volunteerism, and an enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with others are the only prerequisites. Applicants attend classes in their county, learning basic horticultural principles and environmentally sound gardening practices. They then provide volunteer leadership and service to their community through a variety of gardening-related activities. The program objectives are to provide instruction in basic horticultural science to motivated active gardeners and to provide MSU Extension with trained volunteers who will provide timely, accurate information to the public in the rapidly expanding area of home horticulture.

    Description:

    Michigan State University is integrally connected to Metropolitan Detroit through its strong connections and large numbers of alumni residing in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. MSU has long had a presence in Metropolitan Detroit through its many MSU Extension programs, arts and economic development initiatives, and partnerships in teaching and education, including long-term support of the Detroit Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP).

    More recently, MSU’s presence in Detroit has been enhanced through its addition of the College of Osteopathic Medicine’s campuses in Detroit, Wayne County and Macomb County; the Partnerships Office and the Skillman Good Schools Resource Center at YouthVille; and the MSU Detroit Center.
