  • Great Lakes Regional Dairy Conference (February 2018)

    Description:

    The Great Lakes Regional Dairy Conference is dedicated to helping dairy producers learn new ways of increasing their profitability by doing more with less. Leading experts will make presentations on topics ranging from dairy nutrition and reproduction to labor management and environmental stewardship. In addition to the quality line up of educational speakers, spouses will not want to miss the popular Partners Program, which promises a variety of entertaining and educational sessions. The Conference is the home base for the annual Dairy Industry Recognition Night where the industry’s leading producers, dairy scholarship winners and dairy judging team members are recognized and honored.

  • Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program

    Applicants attend classes in their county.

    Description:

    The Michigan Master Gardener Program is a horticulture education and volunteer leader training program offered by MSU Extension. It provides home gardening information to Michigan citizens through a network of trained volunteers. An interest in plants, a personal commitment to volunteerism, and an enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with others are the only prerequisites. Applicants attend classes in their county, learning basic horticultural principles and environmentally sound gardening practices. They then provide volunteer leadership and service to their community through a variety of gardening-related activities. The program objectives are to provide instruction in basic horticultural science to motivated active gardeners and to provide MSU Extension with trained volunteers who will provide timely, accurate information to the public in the rapidly expanding area of home horticulture.

  • Milk and Grain Marketing Series (2017 - 2018)

    Description:

    Agriculture markets are more volatile than ever. For most farms, profits are largely determined by how well you market your production. Now more than ever your farm’s future success depends on your ability to understand the  markets and use the basic marketing tools.  Fred Hinkley, retired MSU Extension Educator and Marketing Specialist will provide insight and outlook on the milk and grain markets, and suggest strategies to minimize financial risk.

  • MSU Income Tax School: Farm Tax Seminars (November, December 2016)

    Description:

    These programs are designed to help producers learn about new pests in Michigan and changes in MSU Extension recommendations in field crop weed, insect and disease control and soil fertility to use for the 2018 growing season. The registration fee is $30.00 per person, which includes the cost of lunch, refreshments and the 2018 E-434 MSU Weed Control Guide for Field Crops and Forages.

    Description:

    Choosing the right sugar beet seed is the foundation of profitable sugar beet production. Matching varieties to field conditions, disease problems and management will be stressed in these meetings. This is your opportunity to find out what new varieties are being brought forward and how to manage these genetics for the greatest success. The programs will include presentations from each seed company, Michigan Sugar Company Researchers and Sugarbeet Advancement.

    This program is run from 8:30 a.m. until noon, at which time lunch is provided. There is no cost to attend this program.
