  • Marketing Boot Camp (February 2018)

    Description:

    During this day-long workshop, Dr. Bridget Behe, Michigan State University professor of horticulture, will discuss all aspects of marketing products at your retail garden center. Topics that will be discussed include how to understand your current customer base, customer behaviors while shopping, your pricing strategy, how to design effective displays, and much more. Please bring your businesses’ mission statement and the hardest item you sell (or a photo of it). Registration ($69) includes lunch, morning and afternoon snack, and handouts.

  • Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program

    Description:

    The Michigan Master Gardener Program is a horticulture education and volunteer leader training program offered by MSU Extension. It provides home gardening information to Michigan citizens through a network of trained volunteers. An interest in plants, a personal commitment to volunteerism, and an enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with others are the only prerequisites. Applicants attend classes in their county, learning basic horticultural principles and environmentally sound gardening practices. They then provide volunteer leadership and service to their community through a variety of gardening-related activities. The program objectives are to provide instruction in basic horticultural science to motivated active gardeners and to provide MSU Extension with trained volunteers who will provide timely, accurate information to the public in the rapidly expanding area of home horticulture.

  • Michigan Conservation Stewards Program (2018)

    Description:

    CSP participants learn about the history of conservation activities in Michigan, ecological principles, ecoregional classifications, and how to make choices to manage our natural resources. In addition to this foundation, participants learn about terrestrial ecosystems (forestlands and grasslands) and aquatic ecosystems (wetlands, lakes and streams) through classroom and in-field instruction.

    Becoming a conservation steward involves the completion of the following: 1. Classroom and field-based training led by experts in various fields of conservation and natural resources, including lectures, interactive learning and field experiences; 2. Self-paced online learning modules provided via Michigan State University’s Desire2Learn (D2L) course management interface which participants will complete on their own; and 3. Volunteer service including the completion of an in-class Capstone Project related to an area of interest as well as additional community volunteer service related to restoring and conserving Michigan’s ecosystems.

  • Michigan Natural Shoreline Educator Training (April 2017)

    Description:

    The objectives of the Michigan Natural Shoreline Partnership are to: Train contractors and landscape professionals about shoreline technologies and bio-engineered erosion control; Educate property owners about natural shorelines and technologies that benefit lake ecosystems; Research, demonstrate, and develop natural shoreline technologies that benefit lake ecosystems; Encourage local and state policies that promote natural shoreline management.

    In this training, participants will learn about the benefits of natural shoreline landscaping, bioengineering and erosion control on inland lakes.

  • MSU Income Tax School: Annual Federal Tax Refresher for Tax Preparers (December 2017)

    Description:

    An optional, voluntary course for unenrolled tax return preparers who wish to increase their knowledge and competency through continuing education. This seminar offers 6 hours of instruction plus a 100 question test. Passing the test, getting additional education (10 hours federal tax and 2 hours ethics in 2017 for the 2018 filing season), and signing a form about Circular 230 allows the IRS to issue a certificate of completion for the Annual Filing Season Program.

    The course opens at 8:00 a.m. Instruction begins at 8:20 a.m. and lasts until 3:00 p.m. Lunch is not included. This will be followed by the test.

  • Tollgate Education Conference Center (Novi, MI)

    Description:

    The MSUE - Tollgate Education Conference Center functions as a full service meeting facility ideal for the business and educational community. Situated on a beautiful 160 acre farm, the gardens and pastures at Tollgate provide a natural and peaceful setting for business meetings, receptions, retreats, conferences, workshops and educational classes. The Center includes the Tollgate Conference room which accommodates up to 140 people; the Activity Center, a more casual setting accommodates up to 60 people; the Americana Boardroom, an executive-style formal meeting room for 12 or less; and the Bassett Boardroom for 10 people.
