  • Professional Science Masters in Integrative Pharmacology Program (Online)

    Description:

    The Professional Science Masters in Integrative Pharmacology is an online program designed to train individuals in whole-animal and organ systems-level pharmacology AND business skills. Unique features of this program include required professional courses in Project Management, Intellectual Property & Patent Law for Researchers, Leadership & Team Building, The Drug Development Process, and Business of Biomedical Research. Students are also required to complete a Capstone research project and associated report. The program results in a 31-credit Master of Science degree, an on-the-job capstone research project, and a paper suitable for publishing.

    Description:

    This comprehensive course for the railway industry (operating companies, suppliers and shippers) is designed for employees that show potential for professional growth and increased management capabilities to middle and upper management levels.  Content is predominantly focused on the needs of managers rather than operators or engineers.  The course was developed and evaluated by MSU Railway Management Program staff, working closely with Class I and Class II railroad education and training directors, as well as the AAR, ASL&RRA, and FRA decision makers, and other transportation industry leaders.  Content is regularly updated to include topical items impacting the railway industry.  The program consists of four weeks’ content that covers the breadth of today’s railway industry.  Lecture-style presentations, from distinguished MSU professors and recognized industry subject matter experts, are balanced with field visits to rail and associated sites to help put the conceptual and classroom sessions into practice.

    Description:

    This online remote sensing course presents the technical and methodological skills needed to interpret various types of aerial images as a source of information in a variety of applications, including geography, forestry, urban planning, recreation management, crop and soil science, among many others. Lab exercises will utilize an extensive set of digital aerial images displaying a wide variety of environments (urban, rural, residential, agricultural, et cetera) where students can practice the interpretation skills discussed in the online lessons and apply them to decision-making across a variety of disciplines.

    This 7-week course is eligible for Michigan State University Continuing Education Units (MSU CEUs), as well as Michigan Department of Education State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs).

  • Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) Core Manual Review Clinics and Credit Clinics (Fall 2017, Spring 2018)

    Description:

    PSEP offers certification training and updates for pesticide applicators, as well as education and information for applicators and the general public about pesticide safety.

    Credit Clinics: Offer 8 MDARD CEUs at each PCC Seminar: Core (Priv. or Comm.), 3A, 3B, 5, or 6 have been applied for.Cost per seminar

    Core Manual Review Clinics: Prepare for the MDARD Core Pesticide Applicators Certification exam with this review session. The three hour review covers the 12 chapters of the National Pesticide Applicators Certification Core Manual. The review is held in the morning and the MDARD exams are given that afternoon. Three Recertification/RUP credits in either Private or Commercial Core are also available for those already certified and seeking renewal by seminar credits.

    Description:

    This Michigan focused 400-hour problem-based course is learner driven through utilization of relevant, real-life, work based problems wherein each student is responsible for his/her own learning. Students work in collaborative learning groups with a maximum of six students and one instructor/facilitator per group. They are actively engaged in problem-solving, in-depth discussions, and critical thinking activities throughout the course. Concepts and skills, once introduced, will be revisited and practiced in more and more complex problematic situations as the weeks progress.

    Curriculum delivery uses a blend of classroom and cutting edge distance learning technologies. During the weeks of distance learning students are required to commit 40 hours per week which means being available between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday to complete a variety of course assignments that may include distance learning group meetings, field trips, and/or one-day classroom sessions.

  • School Social Work Competency Series Refresher Course (Online, Ongoing)

    Description:

    This non-interactive, asynchronous online course (SW 891) provides a review and update of school law issues, home-school-community assessment and intervention strategies, school social work practice skills as well as differential diagnosis and treatment of a variety of child and family-based special needs. Topics range from Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan (FBA/BIP), Crisis/Trauma Response Assessment and Interventions, Differential Diagnosis and Educational Treatment of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Updating Legal and Policy issues. You will be provided access to a secure course website that includes access to lecture materials, videos, and articles to enhance your learning. Successful acquisition of course materials will be demonstrated via online quizzes.

  • Security Management Graduate Certificate Program (Online)

    Description:

    The three-course Security Management Online Certificate Program focuses on current issues and building skills in security management and administration applicable in the ever-changing contemporary environment. Participants can use the certificate program as the first step towards a master’s degree in Criminal Justice. Those who complete the certificate program and meet the School of Criminal Justice’s admission criteria for the master’s degree may transfer the certificate courses to their master’s degree program.

    Flexibility is the key feature of the certificate program, which can be completed in just one year. The online format allows students to complete the program at their own convenience, while continuing their regular employment. Participants will earn course credits from Michigan State University for each course completed successfully. Individuals completing the three-course sequence will also be awarded a Certificate in Security Management from the School of Criminal Justice.

You will utilize mindfulness techniques for self-care while addressing the holistic needs of the self.     Description:

    Michigan State University Extension offers ServSafe, a national certification program for those working in food service, specifically managers and other leaders. ServSafe teaches about foodborne illness, how to prevent it and how to train employees about the latest food safety issues. The ServSafe Manager course uses proven techniques, provides new Food & Drug Administration food code rules and content related to the food industry.

    Topics include: providing safe food, forms of contamination, the safe food handler, the flow of food, food safety management systems, safe facilities & pest management, cleaning & sanitizing. This course provides participants education to successfully pass the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification exam.

  • Signing Online Sign Language Instruction and Continuing Education

    Signing Online offers a series of four ASL (American Sign Language) courses that will give you the basic skills to become fluent in ASL. In ASL, the hands communicate by forming signs, which have meaning just like spoken words in English.     Description:

    Child welfare supervisors can have significant impact on reducing and mitigating the level of stress their workers experience. A number of strategies and tools have proven effective. This training will explore the application of a range of supervisory interventions and tools that promote resilience and retention in child welfare staff. Strategies for engaging workers, assessing and understanding specific worker stressors, intervening at the organizational, team, and individual worker levels will be disseminated. Supervisor self-assessment and reflection, key ingredients for assuring that these interventions are effective, will be a focus of discussion.
