  • The Satir Model: Evolving into the 21st Century (September 2017)

    Dates:

    Friday, September 29, 2017.  9:00 am - 4:30 pm.

    Location:

WMU Beltline Conference Center 2333 E. Beltline Avenue, SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546

    Description:

Recognized as a consummate therapist and healer, Virginia Satir created a widely adopted model of change. Her methods synthesized both structural and strategic approaches to family therapy. Applied with individuals and families, her methods utilized principles of Gestalt, psychodrama, and experiential approaches. However, since her death in 1988, combined with the advent of evidence-based practices, the Satir model is less recognized and understood. This workshop will focus on application of several components (Parts Party, Family Reconstruction, Human Mandala), with emphasis and application for the individual client. Both knowledge and affective domains will be addressed. Special attention will occur in terms of analyzing, evaluating and creating (cognitive domain) and organizing and internalizing values (affective domain).
