    Description:

    Opioid use and dependence is continuing to challenge social work and nursing professionals nationwide. In this workshop, you will be introduced to assessment and monitoring of the opioid dependent patient. Discussion will include the importance of assessment in this patient population, monitoring patients who are prescribed opioids to treat chronic pain, and your professional role in the care of the opioid-dependent patient. Monitoring information will include Michigan Automated Prescription System Reports, urine drug screening, and opioid agreements.

    The abuse of and addiction to opioids such as heroin, morphine, and prescription pain relievers is a significant and serious issue that continues to affect the health, social, and economic welfare of all individuals and families across the U.S. In this workshop, you will learn about the importance of an appropriate and comprehensive diagnosis to determine treatment interventions. In addition, you will learn about how pain management, prevention, education, community involvement, family history and trauma experiences impact the client’s ability to participate in their personalized recovery program. Level of care and determination of medication interventions will be addressed.

    The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research Trials Management (CRTM), was created in response to the increased need and demand for a qualified, educated workforce that can provide a range of supportive roles and services in the fields of clinical research and translational medicine (TM).  The purpose of the CRTM graduate certificate program is to build a clinical research workforce  to meet growing local, state, national, and, potentially, international current and future employment market demands.  The courses that comprise the CRTM certificate program reflect the requisite knowledge and skill sets to qualify graduates to seek employment in the field.

    The Rural Health and Safety Education webinar series “Combating Opioids” is hosted by Purdue University Extension and the NCRCRD as part of a USDA/NIFA grant. Objective of this webinar series is to:

    • Increase professional capacity to engage in health leadership in rural counties
    • Increase access to new ideas and technologies related to opioid misuse and abuse in rural counties
    • Increase public health knowledge and engage in health system
    • Increase health literacy of opioid misuse or abuse in rural counties

    The upcoming webinar, Combatting Opioids Webinar Series: Recognition and Stigma in Prescription Drug Abuse and Alcohol Abuse, explores the factors that influence the recognition of and stigma towards Prescription Drug Abuse (PDA) and Alcohol Abuse (AA).

  • Medical Marijuana: Benefits, Risks, and Pain Management (March 2018)

    Medical marijuana has been legal in Michigan since 2008, however there is still confusion and concern over the role that medical marijuana has in our state. As human service professionals, it is important to develop an awareness and understanding of its benefits to health and pain management. In addition, it is important to understand the role of medical marijuana in substance abuse treatment. In this workshop, you will learn about the benefits and risks of medical marijuana use. You will also define the healing and numbing factors related to use of medical marijuana, especially as they relate to pain management.

  • Professional Science Masters in Integrative Pharmacology Program (Online)

    Courses are offered almost exclusively online.

    Description:

    The Professional Science Masters in Integrative Pharmacology is an online program designed to train individuals in whole-animal and organ systems-level pharmacology AND business skills. Unique features of this program include required professional courses in Project Management, Intellectual Property & Patent Law for Researchers, Leadership & Team Building, The Drug Development Process, and Business of Biomedical Research. Students are also required to complete a Capstone research project and associated report. The program results in a 31-credit Master of Science degree, an on-the-job capstone research project, and a paper suitable for publishing.
