    Description:

    In this workshop, you will explore the value of groups, advantages and disadvantages of group work, the function of a group facilitator and the different types of groups. You will learn the components of how to start up a group, beginning with the curriculum planning, group selection, full value contract development, and first group session activities. You will discuss the stages of groups and how to manage difficult group members. You will explore the value of utilizing experiential techniques and activities in groups, pairing practice of these activities through the training.

  • Motivational Interviewing: Theory and Practice (September 2017)

    Description:

    Motivational Interviewing is an Evidence Based Practice that is an extremely engaging and respectful intervention. You will learn the major components involved in Motivational Interviewing, including how these theories work together to create a thought process that draws people to deal with the problem of motivation and ambivalence in their lives. You will learn about how to respond as a clinician, and how these responses work together to create a strong therapeutic relationship, and how to assist clients to increase their motivation to change and its relationship to fear in the change process. You will also learn about traditional roadblocks that clinicians often have that prevent hearing clients well. You will practice motivational interviewing skills and experience a live demonstration of the skills in practice.  *Qualifies as Substance Use Specific*
