    Description:

    The MSU Department of Forestry offers the Hanover Seminar Series, in which forestry experts from MSU and other institutions discuss issues affecting our forests and forest ecological communities.

  • Horse Behavior and Welfare Online Course

    Description:

    The online course, Horse Behavior and Welfare, includes an explanation of equine welfare and describes how it relates to horse management. Participants will discover a wealth of resources for learning about horse behavior. Horse enthusiasts of all levels can benefit from this course. Specific topics include:

    • Horse senses
    • Horse body language
    • How a horse learns
    • Key factors for the foundation of training
    • Stereotypic behaviors
    • Managing vices (stereotypic behaviors)
    • The definition of horse welfare
    • How to assess horse welfare

    Each lesson consists of an overview, informative topics including pictures and short video clips, as well as optional activities. Some activities include exercises you can complete by working with your own horse or observing other horses!

  • Horse Nutrition Online Course

    Description:

    This online course covers a variety of topics including feedstuffs, forage, grains, and supplements; nutritional diseases and their prevention and management; and assessment of body condition scores, reading feed tags, and evaluating feeding programs. Members of United States Dressage Federation can earn 2 credits through this course.

  • Horse Selection and Evaluation Online Course

    Description:

    The online course, Horse Selection and Evaluation, provides valuable information to potential horse buyers on conformation, skeletal structure, and balance that will help buyers make the best decision about performance potential. The course is estimated to take 8-10 hours to complete. Topics covered include:

    • The components of conformation- skeletal structure, balance, muscling, quality and movement- as it applies to various breeds and performance disciplines
    • How conformation relates to performance and overall soundness
    • Causes of blemishes and unsoundness
    • The importance of a pre-purchase exam
    • How to examine a horse for purchase
    • The importance of a sale contract

    Description:

    MSU's Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, located on campus, displays a unique atmosphere, with cultural and sporting activities right at its back door. Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center offers state-of-the-art conference facilities, including a 300-seat auditorium and 30 multi-function meeting rooms accommodating groups of 10 to 1,000. When planning an event, the Conference Services department provides personal assistance from beginning to end. The Audio-Visual department also provides equipment and technical assistance.     Description:

    The MSU Training Center for Dairy Professionals provides specialized training, facilities, and demonstration materials for veterinary students, veterinarians, and other professionals working in the dairy industry, as well as an infrastructure for clinical research in the health management of dairy cows. The Center, located at Green Meadow Farms in Elsie, Michigan, makes use of the Farm's large dairy herd, modern facilities, and progressive management techniques, as well as the College's faculty and facilities to provide a cutting-edge, mutidisciplinary approach to dairy management.

  • Project FISH Workshops

    Description:

    Project FISH (Friends Involved in Sportfishing Heritage) is a sportfishing and aquatic resource education program for youth. The program's goal is to teach youth fishing skills and provide education on natural resources, environmental awareness, and fisheries stewardship to help preserve a natural heritage, while encouraging kids to appreciate the outdoors. Adult and teen volunteers are encouraged to spend time with the youth as mentors and teachers. Project FISH conducts workshops and classes in Michigan communities to educate interested teachers and volunteers on the fine art of fishing and the importance of caring for Michigan's vital aquatic resources. Workshop themes include: Michigan Aquatic Ecology; People and Fish; Tackle Crafting; and Angling Skills.

    This lecture series offers students, faculty, staff and the Greater Lansing community the opportunity to grapple with important issues or questions in a trans-disciplinary format.     The MSUE - Tollgate Education Conference Center functions as a full service meeting facility ideal for the business and educational community.
