    MSU's Center for Language Education And Research (CLEAR) in the College of Arts and Letters is one of 16 language resource centers in the United States. CLEAR's goal is to promote and support foreign language teaching and learning in the U.S. through second language research, materials development, and professional training workshops.

  • Confucius Institute Services for Educators and School Districts

    Description:

    The Confucius Institute at Michigan State University consults with and assists schools and other organizations to develop customized Chinese language and cultural learning programs. CI-MSU also helps schools and school districts recruit qualified Chinese teachers and provides instructional materials, on-going professional development, and on-site support.

    MSU's English Language Center, in the College of Arts and Letters, serves not only international MSU students who need to improve their English language skills but also individuals who are not seeking a degree at MSU but who want to improve their English skills.

    • French for Advanced: Tuesdays, February 13 - April 17, 2018, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

    Did you know that French is the only language, other than English, spoken on five continents? Advance your practical communication skills in French with our experienced language instructors, interact with other like-minded people in class, and learn about the nuances of how to navigate a different culture. Experience the joy of being back on campus through this enriching opportunity that will help you keep your brain fit and stay sharp intellectually. The small group sizes and supplemental online resources provide hands-on learning experiences for individuals with and without prior foreign language knowledge.

    Sessions for Beginners/Advanced Beginners and Advanced are offered. All classes meet in Wells Hall on campus. There will be no class meetings during MSU's Spring Break (March 5-9). Classes will be canceled if fewer than 8 people register.

    Description:

    The workshops focus on teaching methodology, cultural content, resources for teaching, practicing the target language, and networking. Topics have included music, teaching with technology, multicultural societies, communicative language teaching, implementing literature in the language classroom, teaching culture, and translation.  

    Täglich benutzen Schüler verschiedene Technologien und Lehrkräfte müssen mit dieser Realität auch im Unterricht umgehen. Trotz ihrer Erfahrungen heißt es nicht unbedingt, dass Schüler Digitale Kompetenz besitzen. Digitale Kompetenz bedeutet nicht nur Medien zu konsumieren, sondern auch Inhalte zu finden, teilen, und kreieren. Im Workshop werden Lehrkräfte erfahren, wie man Digitale Kompetenz unterstützt, auch mit Film- und Druckmedien.

    The SLS Symposium is a series of presentations by Second Language Studies Ph.D. students and keynote speakers. This year’s speakers are Dr. Pavel Trofimovich from the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance at Concordia University, and Dr. Christine Tardy from the Department of English at the University of Arizona.

En este taller, los participantes explorarán una variedad de aplicaciones para aprovechar sus interacciones en clase (y fuera de clase) con los estudiantes de tecnología avanzada. Además de las aplicaciones mencionadas, los participantes también explorarán EdPuzzle, Textivate, Memrise y Socrative. Todos los participantes saldrán con actividades de ejemplo y uno o dos ejemplos creados durante la sesión.

    The Spartan Youth Programs Website is a catalog of the programs and activities MSU offers to preK through 12th graders on a variety of topics, including: agriculture; animal care; art, drama, and music; business; college preparation; computers; engineering; leadership skills; math and science; social studies; sports and fitness; and writing and language.
