  • Conversational English Language Classes for Adult Speakers of Other Languages (Spring 2017)

    Description:

    The M.A. TESOL program in the Department of Linguistics and Languages at MSU offers a six-week conversational English course to adult residents of the greater Lansing area in the fall and spring semesters. Adults learning English as a second language at any level of proficiency may enroll; they do not need to be students or citizens of the United States. There is a $15 materials fee.

    Description:

    The MSU College of Music is actively engaged in bringing music education to communities in Greater Lansing and Detroit/Southeast Michigan, reaching thousands of children and adults each year. 

     

    Community Music School (CMS) East Lansing: For more than twenty years, CMS–East Lansing enrolls an average of approximately 3,000 students annually. Classes offered in collaboration with the College of Music included piano pedagogy, early childhood music education, teaching instrumental music, and string methods. A partnership with the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities included CMS-taught folk music classes for members of the MSU community and local residents.

     

    Community Music School (CMS) Detroit: CMS-Detroit, in its 3rd year of operation, enrolled 462 students. The new center represents the College of Music’s commitment to Southeast Michigan and is an extension of the popular CMS–East Lansing. The new Detroit facility offers jazz for youth, band and orchestra for adults of all ages, the Aspiring Musicians Program for youth in grades 5-8, summer camps, adult group lessons, early childhood music education for children from birth through age 5, and music therapy clinical services.

     

  • MSU Cultural Engagement Council for the Promotion of Arts and Cultural Resources

    Description:

    MSU's Cultural Engagement Council (CEC), the organizing body behind the Year of Arts and Culture, is composed of leaders of allied cultural units, outreach, and student life. The CEC strives to increase the visibility of campus cultural resources and facilitate expanded MSU cultural engagement among our students and across Michigan, nationally, and internationally. The CEC seeks to build among students and the community a common understanding of the importance of culture through new and innovative partnerships and collaborations; and to enhance teaching and research in all aspects of the study of culture.

    Description:

    MSU's Design Center in the College of Arts and Letters works with internal and external clients to create visual communication in a professional manner. From logos to packaging, from brochures to websites, Design Center has worked on a variety of projects, each specifically targeted to address the goal and personality of an individual client. Each year, undergraduate students who exemplify creativity, dedication, and professionalism in the Graphic Design Program are selected to join the Design Center creative team.     The primary goal of Wharton Center's Education Programs is to connect learners of all ages to the performing arts by offering a range of programs suited to a variety of learner needs. In so doing, it is our hope that participants of every age will find for themselves that participation in the arts enriches, enhances and broadens one's life.  Programs are available for students, educators, families, and the community.
