  • MIPA 2017 Spring Awards and On-Site Contests (April 2017)

    Description:

    The MIPA Spring Conference is focused on awards. Most students will meet for the exciting awards presentation in the morning, while others will take part in the On-Site Contests. The morning awards include Individual Category Contests for yearbook, newspaper, new media and video production; Golden Pen; All-MIPA; and Student Journalist. Awards will end in the afternoon with the Spartan Awards presentation.

    Advisers, meet up with your adviser friends during the adviser luncheon and network with others throughout the day. The annual MIPA business meeting will take place at the luncheon. Students have lunch on their own.

  • MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop (July, August 2017)

    Description:

    The MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop has everything students need to produce their best work ever.  Many workshops are offered, covering: writing, design, photo, business, leadership, social media, newspaper, yearbook, online, digital, broadcast, and video.  "The Upstart" is the official student media outlet of the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop.  The 2017 workshop is themed "We See Your True Colors."  Tuesday is Adviser Day at the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop. Come visit your students, check out their classes and have lunch.

  • News Advising for Secondary Teachers Online Course (July, August 2017)

    Description:

    This course will cover all aspects of publishing student news in print and online, including reporting, writing and editing; photography; staff organization; legal and ethical issues; design and student assessment.

    Learn from Betsy Pollard Rau, one of the nation’s top student media advisers and a member of the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame. The handouts you receive will be your favorites for years to come, and the online community you’ll form with Betsy and other advisers will be a source of inspiration every day.

    This class can be taken for 3 graduate-level credits or not-for-credit.
