    Description:

    Michigan State University Extension is an educational leader in providing support to communities in green and sustainable economic development. Through programs like Stronger Economies Together, MSU Extension facilitates the development of an economic development plan in two regions in the state. Extension educators help counties work together in developing strong economic blueprints that strengthen relationships, build trust and capacity and strengthen "social capital."

  • Making It In Michigan Annual Conference and Trade Show (November 2017)

    Description:

    Conference attendees will leave the conference equipped with the practical knowledge and industry resources needed to move an idea from the concept stage to a finished and marketable product. Attendees will be able to corroborate and refine business ideas, connecting with industry experts offering insights and tips on managing the common hurdles often encountered by food companies, including food safety, production, working with co-packers, marketing and supply chain issues.

    Description:

    The 2017 Master Citizen Planner (MCP) Webinar Series is designed to offer participants the latest updates and information on current topics. Using Zoom Webinar, MSU Extension educators will provide an overview of topics of interest to planning and zoning officials. Webinars are the third Thursday of February, April, June, August, October and December from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Each session is available individually or participants can register for all six at once. MCPs will earn one hour of continuing education per webinar.

  • New Economy 201: Place-Based Regional Economic Planning

    Description:

    This four-hour program focuses on a simple common vision and basic goals for prosperity; it describes in detail Michigan's critical assets and then identifies place-based strategies to help us create new prosperity on a regional basis.

  • New Economy 301: Strategies to Bridge the Gap

    Description:

    This six-hour (all day) program addresses detailed economic analyses that can be performed to help inform regional strategic growth plans and the key strategies necessary to implement those plans.

  • Placemaking Assessment Tool

    Description:

    The Land Policy Institute has released a Placemaking Assessment Tool (PAT) that will continue to help communities develop quality places that are attractive and functional in Michigan.  The purpose of placemaking is to create quality places where people want to live, work, play, learn and visit. Effective placemaking creates or restores a higher quality living environment in key parts of a community through urban development or redevelopment and provides a wider range of living, transportation, entertainment, recreation and related options to existing and new residents in (and visitors to) communities.
