    Description:

    The week-long Certified Workers' Compensation Professional (CWCP) program provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to be recognized as a professional in this field. Attendees should have some experience in workers' compensation. Seminar topics include Principles of Disability Law; Claims Management & Insurance; Safety; Disability Prevention and Management Issues; and Medical Issues. 

  • CIBERweb: Center for International Business and Research

    Description:

    The Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBERs) were created by Congress under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 to increase and promote the nation's capacity for international understanding and competitiveness.  The CIBER network links the manpower and technological needs of the United States business community with the international education, language training, and research capacities of universities across the country.  The 17 CIBERs serve as regional and national resources to business people, students, and teachers at all levels.

  • Dairy Food Processing One-Day Introductory Workshops

    Description:

    MSU's Dairy Foods Complex houses research and teaching laboratories as well as a small, state of the art process facility for milk and dairy foods. The faculty and staff of the Dairy Foods Complex are regularly involved as invited speakers or writers for educational programs and publications targeted to the consumer. Visitors to the observation deck of the complex may watch a self-guided multimedia presentation explaining the technology behind the processing of fluid milk, ice cream and cheese. The following one-day introductory workshops are offered:

    Description:

    The Dairy Foods Complex facility enhances the ability of scientists to address the important issues in the dairy industry, such as food safety, diet and health, and new technologies. The faculty in the department serve as an important resource for the dairy processing industries in Michigan. During the last 15 to 20 years, the technology incorporated in dairy plant design and the detail in regulation has become increasingly complex. A modern processing plant aids in the training of industry and regulatory personnel for Michigan's dairy processing industries. The Dairy Food Complex also acts as an important educational tool for educators working on food and career units in schools and other groups. Tours and drop-in visits by the public result in over 10,000 visitors per year.

  • Doing the Right Thing in Times of Uncertainty: Ethical and Transformative Leadership (June 2018)

    Description:

    Leading social or organizational change with integrity, especially in times of uncertainty such as these, takes a solid set of resources (concepts, skills, and tools) that many social work managers, leaders, and macro-practitioners lack. Drawing on some of the best writing and thinking in the fields of leadership, social and organizational change, and ethics, this workshop provides the participants with the concepts and tools necessary for effective ethical leadership and management, with an emphasis on transformative leadership/change management. These tools include an approach to the resolution of the ethical dilemmas inherent in leadership, change agentry, and a wide variety of macro social work practices.

    Description:

    MSU's Union Management Initiatives offers a wide range of open-enrollment workshops and site-specific interventions.  Exploring and Designing Workplace Teams assists labor and management participants in increasing the knowledge and skills they need to build a strong foundation for teams. Unionized organizations have a unique opportunity to improve organizational performance through the joint design, implementation, and oversight of workplace teams. With labor and management participating fully and equally in the process, the organization creates a base for achieving results greater than might be achieved through a unilateral approach.

    Eye on Africa is a weekly seminar series that provides scholars, policy-makers, applied practitioners, students, and the interested public with cutting-edge and highly-contextualized knowledge about the African continent. The series draws on a diverse group of presenters to create an inclusive, holistic view of African history, social movements, the economy, and politics.

  • Facilitation Skills and Techniques Workshop

    Description:

    Facilitation Skills and Techniques (Facilitator Institute) focuses on the training of individuals who can effectively facilitate process improvement and problem solving efforts in public or private sector organizations. The five-day program represents an intensive period of training that provides substantive learning, interactive exercises to apply the principles, and the building of a toolkit of techniques useful in working with teams, task forces, and other groups.

  • Farmer Field School Workshop: Shoulder Season and Root Crop Production (November 2017)

    Together, farmers and others will share in discussion of successful (and unsuccessful) practices and approaches to finding balance between the work of farming and life off the farm or at least off the clock. How do passion, values, ideals, goals and financial security for the farm mesh with those of family and loved ones, and our own personal limits? A look at how and why we make the decisions we do and what we can learn from each other and understand about the farm and family life we choose.

    There is no charge for this workshop. Lunch provided.

  • Follow-Up Program for Certified Workers' Compensation Professionals (May 2018)

  • Food Packaging Basics Workshop (November 2017)

    This workshop will offer full insight in all aspects of food packaging including function, materials, systems and processes, shelf life estimation, active packaging, modified atmosphere packaging, distribution, food security and more!  You will leave this course better prepared to implement functional design elements and sustainability practices to your company’s packaging and related operations.

  • FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food- Blended Training Course (November 2017)

    Description:

    The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requires every processing facility falling under the regulation to have at least one "Preventive Controls Qualified Individual" to help develop and implement the required Food Safety Plan. **NEW** The Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) Blended Training course was developed to provide individuals an alternative to the instructor-led 3-day program to complete the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food course.  The Blended course consists of 2 parts. Part 1 is online and Part 2 is instructor-led. Both parts must be completed in order to obtain the certificate. For a clear understanding of this option please click on Blended Training course Background Information. Successfully completing this course is one way to meet the requirements for a “preventive controls qualified individual (PCQI).”

  • Gast Business Library

    Description:

    MSU’s Gast Business Library supports the business-related instructional, research, and public service programs of the students, faculty, and staff. The Library maintains a circulating collection of approximately 55,000 volumes on business and hospitality related topics. In addition, the Business Library supports an extensive reference collection of current materials, including statistical information and numerous sources of directory information. The Library subscribes to approximately 900 journals and periodicals, and provides access to both current and back issues. The Library also provides a special collection of corporate SEC filings on microfiche, including annual reports, 10-K reports, and proxy statements. Non-university patrons are able to obtain borrowing privileges by applying for a community card, with proper identification.

  • Global Business Club of Mid-Michigan Luncheon Speaker Series

    The Global Business Club of Mid-Michigan focuses on global issues of interest to the mid-Michigan business community.     The monthly GB Club luncheons provide outstanding speakers and relaxed networking opportunities. With extensive international experience, the speakers wrap personal insights around a practical and up-to-the-minute approach to conducting international trade.

  • Global Festival: Travel the World in One Day (November 2017)

    Description:

    The Global Festival offers the opportunity to explore cultures from around the world. Every year, international students participate in showcasing their home country with features such as children's games, international exhibits, and performances.  During the festival, explore the World Gift Shop, which offers a variety of international art works, jewelry, glassware, clothing and a multitude of gift items. Proceeds support the Community Volunteers for International Programs Scholarship Fund, for spouses of international students to attend MSU classes.

  • HACCP Certification Training (February 2018)

    Description:

    The HAACP process helps identify potential contamination points in order to prevent hazards in meat processing. The process incorporates science to ensure production methods and delivery of products to consumers are safe. In addition to learning HACCP basics, attendees will learn how to build a team, write a HACCP plan and how to incorporate it. This certificate training includes juice certification.

  • Harassment and Bullying: Driving Fear Out of the Workplace

    The goals of this workshop are to help participants:

    • Define workplace bullying and cyberbullying
    • Identify the costs and consequences of workplace bullying
    • Understand what it takes for behavior to rise to the level of unlawful harassment under federal legislation
    • Communicate in a supportive manner to deescalate difficult situations and minimize bullying
    • Develop and implement workplace bullying and harassment policies
    • Conduct effective investigations into allegations of harassment or bullying
    • Select and implement an appropriate course of action based on the specific situation and underlying causes
