This flexible program enables participants to enhance their knowledge and skills in this increasingly important field of law enforcement while continuing their regular employment.

    Participants can use the certificate program as the first step towards a master’s degree in Criminal Justice. Those who complete the certificate program and meet the School of Criminal Justice’s admission criteria for the master’s degree may transfer the certificate courses to their master’s degree program.

    The Online Homeland Security Certificate program is a three-course program that allows working professionals and graduate students to add a specialization in homeland security to their career or academic plans. The three courses are: Foundations in Homeland Security; Issues in Criminal Justice: Public/Private Partnerships; and Terrorism.

     

  • Introduction to Product Counterfeiting Online Course

    This 3-credit undergraduate course is an introductory examination of product counterfeiting, a global crime that affects people of every socio-economic class, race, gender and culture. The problem is explored through a review of popular literature (e.g., newspaper and magazine articles, blogs, social media), empirical studies, case histories, and criminological theory. Attention is given to understanding the following themes and concepts: the social and economic impacts of product counterfeiting, the transnational nature of counterfeiting organizations, offender motivation, consumer behavior, and the application of crime prevention techniques and theory. The materials presented in this course provide a global understanding of product counterfeiting including the role of brand owners, law enforcement, governments, legitimate businesses, criminal enterprises, and individual consumers.

  • Law Enforcement Intelligence and Analysis Graduate Certificate Program (Online)

    MSU is a national leader in the development and delivery of training, technical assistance, and education in intelligence. The online Law Enforcement Intelligence and Analysis Certificate Program allows students to gain expertise that is policy-based and taught by experienced faculty who have also worked in the field. Students choose three of the four possible courses to complete this three-course (9 credit) certificate program:

    The three-course Security Management Online Certificate Program focuses on current issues and building skills in security management and administration applicable in the ever-changing contemporary environment. Participants can use the certificate program as the first step towards a master’s degree in Criminal Justice. Those who complete the certificate program and meet the School of Criminal Justice’s admission criteria for the master’s degree may transfer the certificate courses to their master’s degree program.

    Flexibility is the key feature of the certificate program, which can be completed in just one year. The online format allows students to complete the program at their own convenience, while continuing their regular employment. Participants will earn course credits from Michigan State University for each course completed successfully. Individuals completing the three-course sequence will also be awarded a Certificate in Security Management from the School of Criminal Justice.

  • Understanding Product Counterfeiting Online Course

    This graduate course explores the crime of product counterfeiting through a mix of theoretical perspectives from criminology, victimology, and organizational behavior. Product counterfeiting is a global crime that impacts almost every aspect of society. The nature of product counterfeiting reflects a toxic mix of mercenary motivations and cognitive dissonance as individuals within organizations, both legal and illegal, capitalize upon criminal opportunities that are solely focused upon the maximization of illicit gains. Through an analysis of theory, empirical studies, and case histories this course helps students gain a comprehensive understanding of product counterfeiting, and promotes the scientific application of theory and research as a means of developing effective crime prevention solutions.
