    Today’s firms face increased competition and pressure to deliver sales and profits.  Many firms are seeking strategies to get the customer more involved in the sales process, thus reducing the time and energy by companies to generate sales. While this may produce beneficial short-term benefits, what are the long-term effects on customer retention?  This session identifies ways to connect with our current customers to satisfy their needs, increase loyalty, generate positive word of mouth, and ultimately increase sales, profits, and increase our customer base.

  • Cashing in on Business Opportunities: Customizable Sessions

    Description:

    Comprised of more than 20 lessons, Cashing In on Business Opportunities offers entrepreneurs and the educators who serve them the technical knowledge and skills needed to manage a business. This workshop series offers a series of reading files (.pdf) of lessons for starting and maintaining businesses, with accompanying Powerpoint presentations for each lesson. The lessons are grouped into four parts and are completely customizable for one hour presentations to full class series.  From business plans to taxes to budgeting to inventory, Cashing In on Business Opportunities provides a complete manual for starting, maintaining, and growing a business.

  • CIBERweb: Center for International Business and Research

    Description:

    The Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBERs) were created by Congress under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 to increase and promote the nation's capacity for international understanding and competitiveness.  The CIBER network links the manpower and technological needs of the United States business community with the international education, language training, and research capacities of universities across the country.  The 17 CIBERs serve as regional and national resources to business people, students, and teachers at all levels.

  • Cottage Food Law Workshops (January 2018)

    Description:

    This workshop focuses on the food safety aspects of preparing cottage foods safely and successfully. Learn what foods can be legally produced and how to label and sell them.

    Cost of this program is $10.00 and includes a certificate that states participant has taken food safety training related to Michigan Cottage Foods. You will receive a certificate to display at your stand following completion of the workshop.

  • Dry Bean and Sugar Beet Symposium (January 2018)

    This annual symposium offers research based information on improving production, marketing, and quality. This is the largest agriculture trade show in central Michigan. There is no registration or fee required to attend.

    Michigan State University Extension is an educational leader in providing support to communities in green and sustainable economic development. Through programs like Stronger Economies Together, MSU Extension facilitates the development of an economic development plan in two regions in the state.   • Farmer Field School Workshop: Shoulder Season and Root Crop Production (November 2017)

How do passion, values, ideals, goals and financial security for the farm mesh with those of family and loved ones, and our own personal limits? A look at how and why we make the decisions we do and what we can learn from each other and understand about the farm and family life we choose.

    There is no charge for this workshop. Lunch provided.

  • Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable, Farm Market, and Greenhouse Growers Expo (December 2018)

    Description:

    The Expo is one of the premier trade shows of its kind. There are over 450 exhibitors with displays of everything needed to grow, harvest, and pack fruit and vegetables, as well as an area featuring companies with products and services for farm marketers. Over three days, the program includes 70+ sessions on fruit crops, vegetable crops, other specialty crops, greenhouse crop production and marketing, farm marketing ideas and operations, farmers’ markets and organic production and marketing. There will also be sessions covering a diversity of general interest topics, including food safety and labor.

    Presentations will be made by researchers and Extension educators from Michigan State University, other Land Grant universities and industry. Many of the education sessions will offer credits for Michigan and Ohio Private and Commercial Pesticide Applicators and Certified Crop Advisors.

    This workshop combines the business and food safety aspects of preparing and selling cottage foods safely and successfully. Learn what foods can be legally produced, how to label and sell them. MSU Extension will be working with the MSU Product Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources to cover the business aspects of the Cottage Food Law. Cost of the workshop is $20.00 and includes a certificate that states participant has taken food safety training related to Michigan Cottage Foods. This workshop will be taught by MSU Extension Food Safety and MSU Product Center Educators.
