  • Basic CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) Seminar (September 2017)

    Description:

    Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), is based upon the principle that “the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime, and the improvement in the quality of life. The seminar will focus upon basic CPTED skills and knowledge required by law enforcement officers and persons involved in community planning activities.

    Description:

    For children in the child welfare system, a disproportionate number of them have little to no exposure to early education services. This training will work with participants to identify the struggles and successes of combining the child welfare system with early education. Additionally, this training will provide tangible and real-world solutions to creating an improved team environment for all involved in a child’s case.

  • Mental Health First Aid Training (May 2017)

    MSU Extension Kent County, 775 Ball Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503

    Description:

    Mental health and substance use issues are common. In this training, participants will learn about risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses and substance use crises. Participants will also develop skills through a five-step action plan to offer initial help in a mental health crisis, and to connect people to appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. Topics include depression, anxiety, suicide, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and alcohol and drug use.

    Participants who attend the entire training will receive a certificate of completion.

    These professional development workshops offer a range of opportunities for professionals who are interested in developing new skills, strengthening existing skills, and seeking opportunities to network with social workers and other human service and healthcare professionals. Social work continuing education contact hours (CECHs) are available by attending any of the programs unless otherwise noted.
