  • Cashing in on Business Opportunities: Customizable Sessions

    Description:

    Comprised of more than 20 lessons, Cashing In on Business Opportunities offers entrepreneurs and the educators who serve them the technical knowledge and skills needed to manage a business. This workshop series offers a series of reading files (.pdf) of lessons for starting and maintaining businesses, with accompanying Powerpoint presentations for each lesson. The lessons are grouped into four parts and are completely customizable for one hour presentations to full class series.  From business plans to taxes to budgeting to inventory, Cashing In on Business Opportunities provides a complete manual for starting, maintaining, and growing a business.

    Description:

    Facilitation Skills and Techniques (Facilitator Institute) focuses on the training of individuals who can effectively facilitate process improvement and problem solving efforts in public or private sector organizations. The five-day program represents an intensive period of training that provides substantive learning, interactive exercises to apply the principles, and the building of a toolkit of techniques useful in working with teams, task forces, and other groups.

    Description:

    The importance of the job analysis process cannot be overstated – yet many human resources professionals have never had the hands-on, in-depth training needed to conduct accurate job analyses.

    This interactive workshop will prepare you to conduct job analyses that provide needed information to enhance performance and minimize risk. Once you’ve mastered the data collection and analysis process, you’re ready to explore how to enhance work processes through job design and re-design. You will learn about the different approaches to job design, when each is most appropriate, and how to apply them to the jobs in your organization.

    Finally, you will be able to write meaningful job descriptions that inform the recruiting, interviewing and selection of employees; guide employees as they perform their work, and provide managers with the information they need to lead high-performance work teams.

    During this day-long workshop, Dr. Bridget Behe, Michigan State University professor of horticulture, will discuss all aspects of marketing products at your retail garden center. Topics that will be discussed include how to understand your current customer base, customer behaviors while shopping, your pricing strategy, how to design effective displays, and much more. Please bring your businesses’ mission statement and the hardest item you sell (or a photo of it). Registration ($69) includes lunch, morning and afternoon snack, and handouts.

    Taught by MSU’s master’s-level faculty, two eight-week online courses focus on the opportunities presented by change as well as the proper timing for implementation. They reveal best practices for change management, including gaining support from the workforce, reshaping organizational culture, overcoming politics, and mobilizing individuals and teams to complete initiatives. You’ll take two required courses in succession - Leadership Effectiveness and Strategic Change Leadership - and earn 7 Continuing Education Units (3.5 CEUs per course).
