Michigan State University researchers are working in partnership with two mid-Michigan high schools to develop an effective school-wide model for preparing students for careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) areas. The College Ambition Program (CAP) focuses on helping students gain interest and realistic expectations about the types of education and experiences needed to pursue technical occupations.
CAP is a research study funded by the National Science Foundation and the Michigan Department of Education designed to promote a college-going culture within high schools. The CAP program provides support and resources to students and high schools through a variety of different avenues:
- Course Counseling and Advising
- Tutoring and Mentoring
- Financial Aid Planning
- College Visits

MSU's Young Playwrights Festival encourages high school students' interest in writing and drama. Winners of the festival competition have their plays produced and performed on stage by MSU theatre majors.
