  • Child Development Laboratories

    Description:

    The MSU Child Development Laboratories (CDL) offers programming to children eighteen months to five years of age. We offer half-day academic year preschool as well as full-day, year-round preschool. 

    The CDL takes an active role in outreach, welcoming practitioners from across the state, country, and world to visit the labs, sharing information about their work in supporting children's development in all domains, and modeling exemplary practice in support of children's social development.  Students and Early Childhood professionals benefit by the exemplary research-driven program within which university students can observe and practice developing skills; being included in a comprehensive Early Childhood educational program, which includes integration of literacy across the domains, the use of anti-bias curriculum, and advocacy for children; being supported in his or her professional development in an emotionally safe environment; and receiving written and oral feedback.  

    Students are supported in their professional development through conference presentations. Staff share their expertise through workshops, publications, and observational tours of their classrooms. Teachers can also complete their required number of hours for their Early Childhood Endorsement (ZS) at the Child Development Laboratories.

    Description:

    Coaching 101 is a collaborative effort to build a professional knowledge base for all Michigan instructional leadership and content area coaches. Its goal is to increase coherence among the various coaching roles so all coaches can effectively and productively work together on behalf of the schools they support. By extending each coach's understanding of the fundamental knowledge, skills, and dispositions of effective coaching, Coaching 101 supports improved instruction and increased student achievement.  All Coaching 101 participants are required to complete an online Orientation prior to attending a four day Coaching 101 training session. There is not a separate registration form for the Orientation. Participants should first choose and register for a Foundations Training Session.

  • Community Engaged Scholarship Writing Retreat (October 2017)

    Description:

    This academic writing retreat provides a dedicated space and time away from campus for faculty, academic staff, and graduate students to write about their community-engaged scholarship, including community-engaged research, service-learning or civic engagement, community-university partnerships, and outreach programs.

    This two-day, residential retreat includes unstructured time to work on your own writing and optional workshops to strengthen your writing and publishing skills. Throughout the retreat, feedback is available from The Writing Center, University Outreach and Engagement, and your peers.

  • CREATE for STEM Institute

    Description:

    The goal of the CREATE for STEM (Collaborative Research in Educational Assessment and Teaching Environments for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Institute is to improve the teaching and learning in mathematics and science from kindergarten to higher education. It serves as a springboard and a hub for innovation, research, and intellectual collaboration, and help bring to fruition ideas and projects that will make a difference in the teaching and learning of science and mathematics for all learners regardless of their cultures or experiences.

  • CREATE Science Seminar Series (2016 - 2017)

    Description:

    The purpose of the CREATE Science Seminar series is to help create a vibrant collaborative community at MSU around research in science education K-16, to provide a venue to disseminate and discuss innovative research methods and results, to foster relationships and networking with national and international experts in STEM education research, and ultimately to help solve challenging problems in the teaching and learning of science, K-16.

  • Educational Technology (NP) Endorsement

    The courses can be completed in hybrid format (online and on MSU's campus); fully online; or oversees

    Description:

    For students in the State of Michigan who are K12 educators, the Educational Technology (NP) Endorsement can be added to either an elementary or secondary certificate. Teachers holding this endorsement are considered well-prepared to teach introductory computer-related classes for which no specific endorsement is needed. These classes include (but are not limited to) — Computers, Computer Literacy, Keyboarding, Word Processing, Computer Applications, Web Design, and Introduction to the Internet.  The NP Endorsement consists of the seven courses; they do not have to be taken in sequence and can be completed online, hybrid, or overseas.

  • Educational Technology Certificate Program (Online, Hybrid, and Overseas)

    Description:

    This graduate-level credential in technology integration prepares educators who work with students in a range of educational settings to help students become powerful digital-age thinkers, makers and problem solvers. In just one or two semesters, you will acquire foundational knowledge and skills that will transform your thinking about how, why and when to integrate a range of digital technologies to support student learning.

    We give you choices that fit your needs. You can take classes online. Our hybrid summer cohort blends face-to-face and online learning. Our overseas program offers four weeks of face-to-face learning.

    The Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology:

    • 9 credits, 3 courses – CEP 810, CEP 811, CEP 812
    • signifies that students have foundations in theories and practices of technology integration  in educational settings
    • can be completed as a stand-alone credential or as a part of the MAET degree program or other university degree programs.
  • Educational Technology Masters Degree Program: Hybrid Format (July - August 2018)

    Description:

    Each summer, two cohorts of educators are welcomed to MSU's campus for two weeks of  face-to-face learning. After these two on-campus weeks, students return home to complete four more weeks of learning with their cohorts online. At the end of the summer, all students return to campus for one day to present their best work, and to share in celebrations of their successes. The cohort model allows students to forge strong professional connections to a group of colleagues who are working through a common set of courses together.

  • Facilitative Leadership Workshop (March, September 2017)

    Description:

    The three-day Facilitative Leadership workshop helps build the capacity of groups or organizations to use the collective talents of its members to coordinate actions, strengthen relationships, and enable the group to meet its goals.  It is designed to build and strengthen the skills and personal confidence necessary to lead and facilitate productive meetings.  MSU Extension offers the program twice each year, in spring and fall. The goal of Facilitative Leadership is to provide participants with a practical hands-on experience using  group facilitation tools and techniques in order to work more effectively with business work teams and community organizations. During this all-inclusive retreat, participants will practice leadership strategies, using the tools, techniques and verbal skills necessary to lead group discussions, reach consensus, set outcome-based goals, and use flip charts and other recording tools.

  • Foreign Language Writing Resource Bibliography

    Description:

    MSU's Center for Language Education And Research (CLEAR) offers a bibliography of resources for the teaching of foreign language writing on their website. The target audience for this bibliography is foreign language teachers who are interested in expanding pedagogical techniques for teaching foreign language writing and researchers wanting to find empirical research on specific topics.

  • K-12 Education Outreach

    Description:

    The MSU College of Education's K-12 Outreach Office works with schools to improve student achievement by providing programs for, and services to, public school teachers and administrators. Through funding from the University and a variety of state and federal grants, the K-12 Outreach Office is currently involved in projects that feature innovative curriculum development, international collaborations, accountability, standards and assessment, leadership development for school administrators, induction and mentoring of beginning teachers, disseminating research and best practice for teaching and professional development, and other issues identified as important to affecting Michigan's education policy and practice.

    K-12 Outreach staff work with state and national education organizations, K-higher education practitioners, legislative bodies, agencies, associations and foundations to affect education policy and practice. The mission and unifying theme of every K-12 Outreach activity is to improve student learning and increase student achievement throughout Michigan.

    Description:

    The 30-credit, online Master of Arts degree in Education (MAED) is designed for educators who are interested in enhancing their professional practice through online study of advanced professional knowledge related to teaching, learning, and leadership in P-12 schools and postsecondary contexts (e.g. community colleges, universities, community centers, and the workplace). Through elective sequences of learning opportunities, the student may develop one or two concentrations that focus on selected areas such as special education, technology and learning, P-12 school and postsecondary leadership, literacy education, sport coaching and leadership, and science and mathematics education. The online MA program in Education is available only online and only under Plan B (without thesis). The online format provides optimum flexibility for students who wish to engage in inquiry and learning that will contribute to exemplary educational practice.

  • Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum Program (Online)

    Description:

    The Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum (MATC) is designed for beginning and experienced teachers alike, the majority of whom are teaching full time and all of whom are deeply committed to public education and teaching P-12 students. Participation in the MATC program requires a deep, dual commitment to teachers’ learning as well as to students’ learning. Our program tailors coursework to meet our students’ individual interests while focusing on the program goals of:

    • Engaging in critical inquiry
    • Developing as accomplished teachers
    • Becoming teacher leaders

    The Online MATC Program is completed entirely online and offers flexible scheduling and access to nationally distinguished faculty.  This 30 credit program is only available under Plan B (without thesis).

  • MSU Broadcasting Services

    Description:

    MSU's Broadcasting Services, in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, aims to "educate, entertain, and inform," touching the lives of more than a half-million mid-Michigan residents and the MSU campus with its programming.

The keynote speaker is Janice Levenhagen-Seeley, founder and CEO of ChickTech.  Educators will explore technology use across the curriculum while connecting with innovative educators from across the state. Get ready for a day of hands-on learning that will inspire you to improve your craft and increase your PLN!  This year’s conference will be FREE OF CHARGE to all attendees.

  • Teaching and Learning in Postsecondary Education Graduate Certificate Program (Online)

    Description:

    The Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning is an online professional development program for current educators and practitioners from a variety of professional settings and disciplines. The course offerings facilitate comprehensive understanding of the social and cultural contexts encountered by adult learners. In addition,
    participants develop knowledge and skills necessary for planning, facilitating, and leading educational programs.
