Cartography Online Course
In this online course, students will learn techniques for creating well-designed maps for a variety of output media. Maps can provide important visual explanations of complex geographic information. This course introduces students to topics essential to good map design, including graphic design principles, typography, and visual variables. Lab exercises provide multiple opportunities for hands-on experience with map-making and web design software programs.
This 7-week course is eligible for Michigan State University Continuing Education Units (MSU CEUs), as well as Michigan Department of Education State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs).
There are six convenient entry points for our certificate courses (or program), with sessions beginning six times a year:

- 23 October 2017 (session 38)
- January 2018 (session 39)
- March 2018 (session 40)
These courses and associated certificate are ideal for: (1) professionals currently working in fields that use geospatial technologies and pursuing training opportunities, (2) professionals and post-baccalaureates looking to advance or revamp their current career path, (3) teachers pursuing continuing education hours, and (4) international students seeking an educational experience and certification from an American university. You do not need to be an MSU student or alumnus to take our professional courses.
