    MSU's Indigenous Law and Policy Center sponsors an annual Indigenous Law Conference. This two day conference includes many speakers, as well as a Litigation Update.  The 2017 keynote speaker is Paul Spruhan, Navajo Nation Dept of Justice, addressing In-House Tribal Counsel's Guide to Amicus Brief.

    Description:

    The mission of the Building Trades Academy is to provide educational programs that offer useful and practical skill building for Building Trades union staff and leadership and capacity building for their unions.

    The learning objectives in the classes offered by the Academy are focused on building the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for participants to effectively fulfill specific staff and leadership roles within their unions. To those ends, the Academy offers classes in organizing, negotiating, teaching techniques and labor law in the construction industry.

    These four- or five-day residential seminars, led by skilled practitioners and educators, are conducted in an atmosphere of solidarity. Nearly all are conducted in conference/educational centers owned and operated by Building Trades affiliated unions and their union employer partners.

  • Camp NARUC - Annual Regulatory Studies Program (August 2018)

    Description:

    This essential two-week program, known as “Camp NARUC” and NARUC endorsed, is designed specifically to meet the needs of regulatory professionals, particularly members of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. The program emphasizes the disciplines and skills essential for participating in an increasingly demanding and complex regulatory process. Core economic, legal, accounting, finance, and policy theories and concepts are introduced. The Fundamentals Course is especially suited to attendees relatively new to utility regulation. The Intermediate Course concentrates on dynamic structural and regulatory issues, including emerging methods, issues, and sector-specific market concerns. Week Two will be of interest to both new and seasoned regulatory personnel. Multiple tracks allow participants to explore various areas of interest. Interactive instruction emphasizes applied technical knowledge.

  • Center for Advanced Study of International Development

    Description:

    MSU's Center for Advanced Study of International Development (CASID) promotes and coordinates the work of faculty and students interested in developing countries from the perspectives of the social sciences and liberal arts. CASID has a strong commitment to its outreach mission serving K-12 teachers and students, post-secondary institutions, government, and business.  Outreach resources include: Publications; K-12 Outreach (LATTICE); Midwest Institute for International/Intercultural Education; International Business Institute for Community College Faculty, and International Business Center (CIBER). 

     

  • Center for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies

    Description:

    The Center for European and Russian/Eurasian Studies (CERS) at Michigan State University aims to promote study and understanding of European, Eurasian, and Russian culture, society, and political issues. CERS has developed an exceptional program in European and Eurasian studies, combining formerly separate programs and faculties in Western European Studies and Russian, East European and post-Soviet Studies into an integrated pan-European and Eurasian Center, which emphasizes the need to explore linkages and study emerging challenges that transcend the cold war divisions of Europe and reach authoritatively into Post-Soviet Central Asia. The Center offers undergraduate specializations in Russian and East European Studies (REES) as well as Western European Studies (WES).

    Description:

    The week-long Certified Workers' Compensation Professional (CWCP) program provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to be recognized as a professional in this field. Attendees should have some experience in workers' compensation. Seminar topics include Principles of Disability Law; Claims Management & Insurance; Safety; Disability Prevention and Management Issues; and Medical Issues. 

  • Cottage Food Law Workshop (May 2018)

    Description:

    This workshop combines the business and food safety aspects of preparing and selling cottage foods safely and successfully. Learn what foods can be legally produced, how to label and sell them.

    Cost of this program is $15.00 and includes a certificate that states participant has taken food safety training related to Michigan Cottage Foods. 

  • Counter-Terrorism Awareness Online Training for U.S. Law Enforcement Officers

    Description:

    This is a FREE, self-paced, web-based training program available to verified U.S. law enforcement personnel via the Internet (E-Learning course). It contains the same information as the one-day classroom lecture workshop Anti-Terrorism Training for Law Enforcement presented by the Michigan Regional Community Policing Institute. It provides a working knowledge of terrorist and criminal extremist groups and individuals, their activities and tactics, and how to recognize and report indicators of terrorism/criminal extremism.

  • D.A.R.E. Michigan Training Center

    Description:

    MSU's School of Criminal Justice heads up the D.A.R.E. Michigan Training Center, which serves as a resource for police officers to bring a clear, comprehensive, and consistent K-12 D.A.R.E. message to kids in Michigan's classrooms to enhance children's development of healthy positive behaviors. Goals of the Center include:

    • Communicating the D.A.R.E. message through elementary, junior high, and senior high curricula;
    • Establishing statewide awareness of the D.A.R.E. program and how it can assist the fight against drugs and violence in schools and communities;
    • Serving as an information resource for the accumulation, interpretation, and dissemination of the D.A.R.E message; and
    • Offering the best training and technical assistance to provide schools and communities with quality D.A.R.E. police officers.

    The Center is also involved in the evaluation of the New D.A.R.E Program curricula, which will be administered to middle school and high schools in six cities across the country.

  • Effective Communication in the Municipal Environment Program (Online, Self-paced)

    Description:

    This self-paced, online program consists of five lessons that focus on the full range of knowledge and skills needed to communicate within the municipal environment.  Upon registration, you will receive a sixty-page self-study document and notes to tell you which sections to read with detailed instructions on how to complete the program requirements.

    The self-study program helps those who work in or interact with local government to understand the most efficient and effective way to communicate in their working environment. Many of our participants have indicated the need for a program that helps them communicate with their associates at work, with elected and full time local government representatives and officials and with concerned citizens within their communities.

    The self-study document, compiled by an MSU specialist who has immense experience working in the municipal field, is written in the style of a fictional narrative. This narrative is designed to make the learning experience highly practical, as it considers how an administration can improve communications internally and with citizens. It is based on a city, the mayor, elected officials, full time officers and employees with a focus on utilities supervision.

    The program and therefore the narrative is divided into five sections or lessons, and after completion of each section, you will complete an online multiple-choice examination to test your learning.

    Description:

    Center for Police Executive Development Command Officer Development Police Executive Development Series School of Staff and CommandThe 80-hour First Line Supervision course is offered via a blended course of instructional delivery consisting of 3 days in a retreat setting where learners are required to stay on location. This is followed the next week with 3 days of facilitated distance learning. In the third week the learner will participate in 4 days of classroom instruction at the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office in Charlotte, for a total of 80 instructional hours. The instructional format is problem-based learning (PBL) – the next generation in law enforcement training.

  • Food Fraud Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) (November 2017)

    Description:

    The Food Fraud Overview MOOC is a two-week program with readings, a 2-hour lecture, and then a weekly assessment quiz.  The objective of this course is to provide students with an insight into the emerging corporate need of Food Fraud Management. The course draws on a wide range of current experience and expertise, infusing many real-world applications and problem-solving exercises that will provide a framework for success in the future. The course will also serve as a forum for MSU to gain insight from the students who are working professionals, many of whom are leading their industries.Students will receive an MSU Food Fraud Overview MOOC Credential. This MOOC is positioned as a bridge between general webinars and the more intensive programs such as the graduate course, graduate certificate, or even a Food Fraud focus in a Master’s degree.

  • Food Law Current Issues Conference (June 2018)

    The Current Issues in Global Food Law conference explores the interconnectedness, relationships and impact of food law, food science, industry and consumers.  Bringing together members of industry and the regulatory world as well as students, alumni, and faculty, the conference will increase attendees’ understanding of today's food law issues, tomorrow's opportunities, and the future challenges facing the global food industry.

    The Global Business Club of Mid-Michigan focuses on global issues of interest to the mid-Michigan business community. In this role, the GB Club is dedicated to supporting global business growth of the State of Michigan and its diverse manufacturing and service organizations. The main activity of the GB Club is the luncheon speaker series.

    The monthly GB Club luncheons provide outstanding speakers and relaxed networking opportunities. With extensive international experience, the speakers wrap personal insights around a practical and up-to-the-minute approach to conducting international trade.

    This workshop combines the business and food safety aspects of preparing and selling cottage foods safely and successfully. Learn what foods can be legally produced, how to label and sell them. MSU Extension will be working with the MSU Product Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources to cover the business aspects of the Cottage Food Law. Cost of the workshop is $20.00 and includes a certificate that states participant has taken food safety training related to Michigan Cottage Foods. This workshop will be taught by MSU Extension Food Safety and MSU Product Center Educators.

  • International Short Course: Agricultural Biotechnology and Biosafety (August 2018)

    Description:

    Education and awareness on various aspects of agricultural biotechnology including environmental biosafety and food safety issues will help assist government agencies various stakeholders make informed decisions on genetically engineered crops and products. This program is designed to help participants better understand various issues surrounding the use and management of agricultural biotechnology globally.  The focus of this training program is on biotechnology research, policies and regulations, management, and public outreach components as well as biotechnology related trade issues.

  • International Short Course: Food Safety (July 2018)

    This week-long International Short Course in Food Safety. The course focuses on food safety policy development, risk analysis, and program implementation.
