  • Dia de la Mujer Conference (April 2018)

    Description:

    This annual conference has provided a much needed space for Latinas in Michigan to affect social change and to highlight their accomplishments. Keynote presenters, forums and workshops facilitated by Latina women will provide conference participants with networking opportunities for employment, education and sharing life experiences. Topics have included education, health, politics, community, family, history, culture, career and personal development. Over two-dozen workshops will be offered for participants of all ages and life phases, including adults, college students, and K-12 students. 

  • Executive Leadership for Women: Strategies to Enhance Success-Modules 1 and 2 (October, November 2017)

    Description:

    The most successful women have vision, fortitude, and the ability to work in competitive environments without compromising their unique traits and skill sets. Research shows that companies with a higher percentage of women in top management also experience a higher Return on Equity and Return on Sales. This program provides critical information and leadership insights designed to help high-potential women improve performance and productivity within their unique business environments. Based on both proven research and the personal experiences of senior executives, the program develops individualized action plans and engages organizational superiors to help support implementation. This program will also create a unique network of colleagues with similar experiences to help support future growth and development.

    Each year, the Department of Sociology invites a number of guest speakers to present on their scholarship. Recent speakers have presented research on a variety of topics, including political sociology, race, gender, health, sexuality, and criminology.

    The Lori E. Talsky Center for Human Rights of Women and Children is dedicated to bringing to the MSU Law campus a range of speakers who are experts in international human rights or humanitarian law, or who are particularly knowledgeable about one of the ongoing crises engendered by violations of such law.
