    Description:

    The Center for Economic Analysis provides timely, high quality research, data, and analysis that contributes to the overall awareness of how the agricultural, natural resource, and related sectors and other community economic development activities contribute to the state economy. The CEA provides a number of services, including:

    Description:

    The MSU Child Development Laboratories (CDL) offers programming to children eighteen months to five years of age. We offer half-day academic year preschool as well as full-day, year-round preschool. 

    The CDL takes an active role in outreach, welcoming practitioners from across the state, country, and world to visit the labs, sharing information about their work in supporting children's development in all domains, and modeling exemplary practice in support of children's social development.  Students and Early Childhood professionals benefit by the exemplary research-driven program within which university students can observe and practice developing skills; being included in a comprehensive Early Childhood educational program, which includes integration of literacy across the domains, the use of anti-bias curriculum, and advocacy for children; being supported in his or her professional development in an emotionally safe environment; and receiving written and oral feedback.  

    Students are supported in their professional development through conference presentations. Staff share their expertise through workshops, publications, and observational tours of their classrooms. Teachers can also complete their required number of hours for their Early Childhood Endorsement (ZS) at the Child Development Laboratories.

  • Community Evaluation and Research Collaborative (CERC)

    Description:

    CERC acts as a hub for program evaluation activity across Michigan State University and provides training in evaluation and community-based participatory research, and conducts formative (planning) and summative (outcome) evaluations. Across local, state, and national arenas, CERC partners with nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, government, health organizations, foundations, and other universities.

    Description:

    The purpose of the CREATE Science Seminar series is to help create a vibrant collaborative community at MSU around research in science education K-16. We provide a venue to disseminate and discuss innovative research methods and results. These seminars also offer opportunities to foster relationships and network with experts in STEM education research. By providing this series, CREATE ultimately strives to help solve challenging problems in the teaching and learning of science.

  • Education Policy Center at MSU

    Description:

    The Education Policy Center in MSU's College of Education provides timely, credible, and non-partisan policy research and analysis to key audiences in Michigan's education policy system. The center gives priority to activities that support and inform policy debate and development in the Legislature and the Michigan Department of Education. It supports activities that foster informed discussion and understanding of educational issues for broader audiences, including Michigan businesses, professional educators, and local school boards and their communities.

  • Fellowship of Instructional Leaders

    Description:

    The Fellowship offers a research-based approach to school improvement, customized to the unique context of your school. The Fellowship builds capacity to lead improved instructional practice for increased student achievement. We can help you and your school leadership team improve the learning climate of your school, advance the quality of instruction in your classrooms, and set and meet meaningful school improvement goals.

    As part of the Fellowship, your school leadership team will learn how to improve instruction throughout your building by focusing on your own data in the context of MSU's framework for action. Quality instruction is at the heart of the framework, with teachers learning to use data to drive instruction and improve learning. The program is grounded in the best research around teaching and learning. With nearly a decade of experience, this program has had proven success in schools just like yours.
     

  • K-12 Education Outreach

    Description:

    The MSU College of Education's K-12 Outreach Office works with schools to improve student achievement by providing programs for, and services to, public school teachers and administrators. Through funding from the University and a variety of state and federal grants, the K-12 Outreach Office is currently involved in projects that feature innovative curriculum development, international collaborations, accountability, standards and assessment, leadership development for school administrators, induction and mentoring of beginning teachers, disseminating research and best practice for teaching and professional development, and other issues identified as important to affecting Michigan's education policy and practice.

     

  • Master of Arts in K-12 Educational Administration Hybrid Program (East Lansing, Detroit, Birmingham)

    Description:

    The Masters program in K-12 Educational Administration prepares aspiring educators for leadership positions in public, charter and private school settings. The program is committed to developing school-level leadership for powerful and equitable teaching and learning and to ensuring students meet the state standards for leadership preparation. Most students complete the program in 2-3 years while working. Successful graduates qualify to apply to the Michigan Department of Education for Administrator Certification with Elementary and Secondary Endorsements.

    At all three sites, the program accommodates full and part-time students and uses evening and online formats for its courses. The core courses for the degree are offered in a hybrid course format while most elective courses are totally online. Hybrid courses have students meeting face to face four to six times over a semester with the remaining course interactions taking place online. MSU offers faculty and students access to Zoom, an online communication tool that supports synchronous (meeting during scheduled times) online meetings for core instruction and for collaborative group work. Most classes also have components that are completed asynchronously (according to individual student preference).

  • National Collaborative for the Study of University Engagement

    Description:

    The National Collaborative for the Study of University Engagement was developed to stimulate a greater understanding of how university engagement enhances faculty scholarship and community progress. The center addresses the full spectrum of issues surrounding faculty outreach and engagement work, including:

    • Defining outreach and engagement and seeking national alignment on the meaning and scope of the nomenclature.
    • Assessing faculty perceptions of their outreach and engagement work and how they compare to the University's outreach and engagement mission.
    • Developing measurement and benchmarking criteria for outreach and engagement (locally and nationally).
    • Studying processes and impacts of university-community collaborations.
    • Analyzing community contributions to engagement and scholarship.
    • Investigating practices and policies that enable universities and colleges to weave outreach and engagement into their institutional fabric and faculty promotion and tenure systems.
    • Providing incentives for faculty to evaluate their work as engaged scholars.
    • Defining areas of ongoing research.
    • Conducting literature reviews and writing for Web site dissemination.
    • Presenting and publishing the Center's work.

    The site offers documents, archived and future conferences and events, tools for measurement and assessment, and links to national initiatives.

  • School Social Work Competency Series (Online)

    Description:

    The School Social Work Competency Series is an online professional development opportunity for those who are interested in advancing their knowledge in social work intervention in educational settings, assessment, and integration of psychological and educational testing and intervention with children with special needs in educational settings. The Competency Series is designed to meet specific educational requirements set forth by the State of Michigan Department of Education.
