    MSU's Center for Advanced Study of International Development (CASID) promotes and coordinates the work of faculty and students interested in developing countries from the perspectives of the social sciences and liberal arts. CASID has a strong commitment to its outreach mission serving K-12 teachers and students, post-secondary institutions, government, and business.  Outreach resources include: Publications; K-12 Outreach (LATTICE); Midwest Institute for International/Intercultural Education; International Business Institute for Community College Faculty, and International Business Center (CIBER). 

     

  • Engage Summer Institute for Global Studies: Teaching Through Stories (June 2018)

    Description:

    Are you interested in incorporating Africa, Asia, and Latin America more effectively into your classes? This free workshop is open to K-12 educators with priority given to mentor teachers of MSU interns. During this five day workshop, area experts will use the power of stories to provide deeper insight into the history, economy, culture, and topical issues of a place. College of Education experts will provide teachers with pedagogical support for internalizing current curriculum or creating new materials. Upon successful completion of the summer institute, teacher participants will receive a $200 stipend, free curricular resources, and 30 SCECHs.

    These language workshops focus on teaching methodology, cultural content, resources for teaching, practicing the target language, and networking. 

    Dans cet atelier interactif, vous allez découvrir les écoles en France et au Québec à travers des thèmes tels que le calendrier scolaire, y compris les vacances, l’emploi du temps des élèves au lycée, les options possibles après le lycée, etc. N’hésitez pas à partager vos questions à l’avance!

    Nous partagerons notre présentation, avec des plans de leçon et des activités d’écoute qui incluent des enregistrements avec des Français et des Québécois.

  • German Immersion Teacher Workshop (April 2018)

    Description:

    The workshops focus on teaching methodology, cultural content, resources for teaching, practicing the target language, and networking. Topics have included music, teaching with technology, multicultural societies, communicative language teaching, implementing literature in the language classroom, teaching culture, and translation.  

    Täglich benutzen Schüler verschiedene Technologien und Lehrkräfte müssen mit dieser Realität auch im Unterricht umgehen. Trotz ihrer Erfahrungen heißt es nicht unbedingt, dass Schüler Digitale Kompetenz besitzen. Digitale Kompetenz bedeutet nicht nur Medien zu konsumieren, sondern auch Inhalte zu finden, teilen, und kreieren. Im Workshop werden Lehrkräfte erfahren, wie man Digitale Kompetenz unterstützt, auch mit Film- und Druckmedien.

    This free 30-hour course provides an overview of the pre-modern history and culture of China, Japan, and Korea with a special emphasis on pedagogy, best practices, Common Core connections, and teaching resources. This seminar is designed to assist middle and high school teachers.
