This resource provides educators with Web listings, books available at the MSU Library, and journal articles. The primary focus is on multicultural literature, which offers positive role models for all children.
MSU's College of Education professors, Yong Zhao and Carol Sue Englert, developed TELE-Web, a Web-based environment to support students with the acquisition and development of literacy skills. TELE-Web (Technology Enhanced Learning Environments) was primarily designed to address the needs of students with mild learning disabilities, yet its flexibility allows proficient students to extend their literacy skills as well. TELE-Web is a synthesis of effective literacy practices, educators' pedagogical experiences and needs, and the needs of diverse learners. TELE-Web contains four "rooms": writing, reading, library, and publishing. Each room contains its own set of activities, mutually accessible, with a teacher interface and a student interface; students have the option of using a speech synthesizer. TELE-Web is a flexible tool that educators can mold to fit their curriculum.
