  • A Simplified Approach to Head and Neck Radiology Online Videos

  • Advanced Flow Cytometry Certificate Courses

    Description:

    This program will train laboratory scientists in advanced techniques and use of flow cytometry equipment to diagnose various medical conditions and learn the techniques to arrive at a diagnosis quicker and with more accuracy. Practitioners interested in this program should have completed BLD 850, 851, and 852, OR have experience in Flow Cytometry and the approval of the professor.  Courses for the Advanced Flow Cytometry program include:

    • BLD 853: Advanced Flow Cytometry (2 credits): Online
    • BLD 854: Advance Flow Cytometry Laboratory (2 credits): Week-long, on-campus summer course
  • Brain Biodiversity Bank

    Description:

    MSU's Department of Radiology, Division of Anatomy offers its Brain Biodiversity Bank as a part of the Comparative Mammalian Brain Collections, a joint project with the University of Wisconsin, the National Museum of Health and Medicine, and the National Science foundation. Their purpose is to provide some examples of ways in which images and information from the Collections, in digital electronic format, can be used in educational, research and commercial enterprises. A variety of databases, atlases, and samples are available.

  • Clinical Mass Spectrometry Courses (Online)

    Online. BLD 872 (laboratory course) is a one-week, on-campus summer course.

    Description:

    Medical laboratory scientists with training in mass spectrometry are in demand in the clinical laboratory. These courses will cover the fundamentals and build on them through the program. They will cover mass spectrometry in detail and apply this knowledge to clinical based samples. Courses will also cover instrument maintenance and trouble shooting tips.

    The Michigan State University Institute for Health Policy is a unit within the College of Human Medicine (MSU CHM), Division of Public Health. The Institute serves a unique role facilitating and supporting collaborative relationships among CHM faculty and researchers throughout campus. These collaborative activities inform policymakers, state agencies and others with a goal of improving health care delivery in Michigan.

    The mission of the Institute for Health Policy is to improve the health status of Michigan residents through health services research, policy analysis, education and outreach and support of quality improvement activities.

  • Institute of International Health

    Description:

    The mission of the Institute of International Health (IIH) is to foster and enhance the opportunities for
    faculty and students to create, innovate, and transform international transdisciplinary health research,
    health development projects, and academic interest in global health. IIH works with all of the medicine and health-related colleges, as well as with agricultural, engineering, social and environmental scientists and nutritionists to foster and coordinate research, education, and development at a global level. IIH also collaborates with Michigan-based hospitals affiliated with MSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine to raise awareness of global health issues and help improve clinical services and health outcomes for underserved regions of the world.

  • Laboratory for Comparative Orthopaedic Research

    Description:

    The Laboratory for Comparative Orthopaedic Research (LCOR) is a multidisciplinary research laboratory dedicated to applied basic science research of the musculoskeletal system of humans and animals. LCOR focuses its research on sports-related injuries such as the repair and reconstruction of ligamentous and meniscal injuries of the knee. The Laboratory has investigated and developed several techniques of tissue repair and transplantation that are currently in clinical use in both animals and humans.

  • Managing Biomedical Laboratory Operations Online Certificate Program

    Description:

    The Michigan State University (MSU) Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program offers a Certificate Program in Managing Biomedical Laboratory Operations.  Completion of the three courses is required for the certificate, though individual course enrollment is possible with appropriate prerequisites.

    The Certificate Program includes the following courses:

    • BLD 842, 2 credits – Managing Biomedical Laboratory Operations  - participants will learn the integration of the roles of legislative, regulatory, technological, and economic factors which influence the practice and management of biomedical laboratory operations
    • BLD 844, 1 credit – Topics in Biomedical Laboratory Operations – current issues relevant to biomedical laboratory operations from an interdisciplinary perspective with an emphasis on efficient laboratory operations.
    •  BLD 846, 2 credits – Decision processes for Biomedical Laboratory Operations – integrates scientific principles, management principles, and regulatory factors in the form of case studies as a means to cover strategies for decision-making in the operations of a biomedical laboratory.
  • Medical Education Online Journal

    Description:

    Medical Education Online (MEO) is a forum for disseminating information on education for physicians and other health professionals. Manuscripts on any aspect of the process of training health professionals will be considered for peer-reviewed publication in an electronic journal format. In addition to manuscripts, MEO provides a repository for resources such as curricula, data sets, syllabi, software, and instructional material developers wish to make available to the health education community.

  • NanoMSU.org

    Description:

    MSU researchers have collaborated to create NanoMSU.org, a web site designed to facilitate nanotechnology research and education by publicizing MSU's research expertise, facilities, and educational programs, providing a central point of contact for off-campus inquiries, distributing nanotechnology-related information of general interest, and encouraging new synergistic collaborations. The site lists participants and their areas of research, research centers, relevant news items, and other national nanotechnology research efforts.

  • Occupational & Environmental Health Safety Initiatives

    Description:

    MSU's Division of Occupational & Environmental Medicine partners with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to handle approximately 15,000-20,000 reports of occupational disease each year through several initiatives, services, and research projects. The website offers information, resources, reports, and newsletters.

     

     

  • Occupational Illness in Michigan Online Resources

    Description:

    MSU’s College of Human Medicine and the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine provide online annual reports on occupational disease, silicosis, work-related asthma, noise induced hearing loss, and blood lead levels. The website also provides online newsletters on various occupational diseases; an instructor’s manual and a user’s manual on Abrasive Blasting: Preventing Silicosis; Project SENSOR (Sentinel Event Notification System for Occupational Risks), a federally-funded grant to assist the state in conducting patient and workplace follow-up based on approximately 20,000 occupational disease reports received each year at the MDCIS; the ABLES program, a surveillance system for identifying and preventing cases of elevated blood lead levels among U.S. adults; links to other occupational and environmental medicine websites; and an online form for reporting of known or suspected occupational diseases.

  • Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratories

    Description:

    The primary focus of our research laboratories is to understand mechanisms of osteoarthrosis and investigate methods of diagnosis, intervention, and prevention of this disease. In these investigations, the OBL utilizes in vivo animal models, human cadavers, and mathematical models to study blunt joint trauma. The OBL also conducts experiments on athletic and workplace footwear in cooperation with various manufacturers. These studies specifically examine the durability, comfortability, and the ability of footwear to help protect the body from injury.

    The OBL regularly performs co-operative studies with orthopaedic manufacturers to assist in the evaluation and development of new products and devices. Through experimentation involving biomechanical tests, histological analyses, biochemical assays, and mathematical model analyses, we seek to answer the many questions that evolve when studying various musculoskeletal diseases and related problems.

    Description:

    The mission of the Department of Pediatrics Patient Care is "to advance the healthy development and well being of children and adolescents through innovative medical education, research, clinical care, and advocacy, emphasizing community-based partnerships." To this end, the department offers a broad range of clinical and laboratory services to the children of Michigan, drawing on the talent of more than 100 faculty members located on six community campuses (Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Midland, and the Upper Peninsula).  Clinical services are offered in the following areas:

  • Professional Science Masters in Integrative Pharmacology Program (Online)

    Description:

    The Professional Science Masters in Integrative Pharmacology is an online program designed to train individuals in whole-animal and organ systems-level pharmacology AND business skills. Unique features of this program include required professional courses in Project Management, Intellectual Property & Patent Law for Researchers, Leadership & Team Building, The Drug Development Process, and Business of Biomedical Research. Students are also required to complete a Capstone research project and associated report. The program results in a 31-credit Master of Science degree, an on-the-job capstone research project, and a paper suitable for publishing.

  • Radiology's Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

    Description:

    MSU's Department of Radiology recently installed one of the nation's most powerful full-body MRI machines. This 17-ton magnet creates a magnetic field of 3 tesla and provides superior image quality. The MRI diagnostic technique greatly enhances MSU's research and clinical capabilities.
