The Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement promotes active learning and outreach, focused on civic engagement, in which students serve with non-profit organizations, health and human service agencies, and educational, governmental and other publicly funded institutions to help meet needs and/or address issues that have been identified by the communities in which the students are involved. Structurally, service-learning and civic engagement at MSU support curricular and co-curricular service-learning, interdisciplinary and cross-unit collaborations related to service, and service-learning in pre-college programs. Over 300 local, national, and international community partners list more than 900 placement opportunities with the Center.
The reports, guides, proceedings, and periodicals produced by MSU's Office of University Outreach and Engagement:
help foster a national discussion about what it means for an institution to meet its responsibilities both to the public and to scholarship through community engagement;
address questions regarding the responsibility of public universities to the constituencies and society they serve;
help implement the University’s commitment to serving the public with the knowledge resources of a major research university.
