  • First Amendment Law Clinic

    Description:

    The First Amendment Law Clinic offers First Amendment workshops and pro bono legal services to school journalism programs throughout Michigan. Clinic students assist student journalists and faculty struggling with a variety of legal issues including permissible use of social media, student press censorship, copyright and trademark infringement, access to government records, and invasion of privacy issues.

  • Knight Center for Environmental Journalism

    Description:

    MSU's Knight Center for Environmental Journalism, in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, teaches student and professional journalists how to better report on the world’s most important beat.  The program serves undergraduate and graduate students and professional reporters with specialized training.  Students learn from environmental experts and journalists and report for professional award-winning publications and broadcast outlets. Under the guidance of expert faculty they experiment with new ways of explaining complex environmental issues while maintaining traditional values of fairness and accuracy.  Students who study with the center produce and publish professional level journalism, gaining valuable experience and material for building resumes.  The center also organizes and teaches workshops in the U.S. and abroad to help professional reporters improve their coverage of the environment.

  • Meeman Archive of Environmental Reporting

    Description:

    MSU's Knight Center for Environmental Journalism houses the Meeman Archive, a collection of award winning newspaper reporting on environmental issues. In association with the MSU Libraries, the Center is creating a searchable database to aid researchers and journalists in finding articles on specialized topics.

  • MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop (July, August 2018)

    Description:

    The MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop has everything students need to produce their best work ever.  Many workshops are offered, covering: writing, design, photo, business, leadership, social media, newspaper, yearbook, online, digital, broadcast, and video.  "The Upstart" is the official student media outlet of the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop.  

    The 2018 workshop is themed "What's Your Super Power?"  Tuesday is Adviser Day at the MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop. Come visit your students, check out their classes and have lunch.

    The MSU Wharton Center's World View Lecture Series allows participants to immerse themselves in today’s leading issues, with viewpoints presented by world-renowned experts, at amazingly low prices.​ 

    The 2018-2019 schedule includes:

    • Ron Suskind: ​Ron Suskind’s book, Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes and Autism, examines his family’s twenty-year adventure of the heart with his son, Owen.
    • Nontombi Naomi Tutu: The challenges of growing up black and female in apartheid South Africa have been the foundation of Nontombi Naomi Tutu’s life as an activist, consultant, and educator.
    • Joy-Ann Reid: ​Known for her insightful news analysis, Joy-Ann Reid hosts AM JOY on MSNBC, and serves as a national correspondent appearing on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, Hardball with Chris Matthews, and The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.
