  • ArcGIS II: Beyond the Basics Course (August, November 2017)

    Description:

    This one-day course will move beyond the basics by teaching participants how to properly structure a geodatabase, georeference data, edit vector data using a variety of advanced techniques, and create secondary data from existing raster datasets, such as cartographic contours and distance information. Participants will also construct geo-processing models using ModelBuilder and save them to their own custom toolbox. The course culminates in the creation of a map that incorporates advanced techniques such as page definitions, inset maps and data-driven pages.

    Description:

    The Environmental Science and Policy Program has launched a symposium series to explore the challenges and opportunities we face in enhancing human well-being while protecting the environment. This symposium will bring distinguished thinkers from around the world to explore what we know, what we need to know and what we must do as we move into a century of unprecedented environmental change, technological advancement and scale of human activity. The event will include research focused seminars and discussion but will emphasize events and presentations that will speak to the broader MSU and Michigan community. In addition to live events and webcasts, the symposium will generate educational materials that can be used in classes and non-traditional education in the spring and beyond.

    Description:

    The Department of Geography at Michigan State University is one of 12 degree-granting units in the College of Social Science.  Faculty and student research centers on such topics as people-environment relationships, climate, geographic information science, soils-geomorphology, urban structure, and global change. The spatial extent of these research interests range from local to global in such places as Kenya, Brazil, the Great Lakes, China, and Michigan.  The Triple G Colloquium Series invites speakers to share their expertise on currently relevant issues in geography.

    Description:

    This two-day course demonstrates the complex capabilities of the ArcGIS software. Through conceptual overview and hands-on applications, participants will learn how to perform powerful queries and map displays. Participants will become familiar with the ArcGIS graphical user interface (GUI) and explore methods for creating, editing, displaying, querying, and analyzing geographic and tabular data in this software. Course textbook is included in the fee.

    Description:

    The Training Center at the RS&GIS is a state-of-the-art computer facility, equipped with the latest software and hardware. This lab is the perfect place to take a RS&GIS workshop or host your own event. These one- to two- days of CEU certified technical workshops cover the principle tools of geospatial technology. These hands-on classes, taught by a staff of Certified GIS Professionals, give you the opportunity to expand your technical skills, spatial knowledge, and software proficiency. Full-day or multiple-day courses carry CEU credits.

    This free 30-hour course provides an overview of the pre-modern history and culture of China, Japan, and Korea with a special emphasis on pedagogy, best practices, Common Core connections, and teaching resources. This seminar is designed to assist middle and high school teachers.
