    MSU's Center for Ethics and Humanities in the Life Sciences offers a monthly brown bag and webinar covering topics in health care and ethics. Participants may attend the lecture on campus or join the webinar online. Those attending on campus may feel free to bring their own lunch.  Beverages and light refreshments will be provided.     Description:

    The bioethics brownbag lecture series was started by the Center in the mid 1990s. Over the years, the series has featured countless speakers from all over the United States and the rest of the world. Lecture topics frequently stem from bioethics history, current research, theory, law and health policy, and more.  You can join us in person or watch live online! Lectures are held on MSU’s campus in East Lansing from 12-1 pm EST. See individual event details for room locations. Feel free to bring your lunch! Complimentary beverages and light snacks will be provided.  If you cannot come in person, you are welcome to join in the Webinar format from your computer.

    Description:

    MSU's Center for Ethics and Humanities in the Life Sciences supports reflective practice in health care and in science by bringing to these fields the resources of ethics and the humanities. The Center does this through teaching, writing, public speaking, conducting research, and working in many other ways with students, practitioners, and the general public. In the Center's teachings, from semester-long courses through one-hour lectures, from drawing up curricula to conducting workshops, the Center collaborates with faculty in the other colleges across the University. The Center emphasizes the ways in which theory and practice illumine one another.

  • Doing the Right Thing in Times of Uncertainty: Ethical and Transformative Leadership (May 2019)

    Description:

    Leading social or organizational change with integrity, especially in times of uncertainty such as these, takes a solid set of resources (concepts, skills, and tools) that many social work managers, leaders, and macro-practitioners lack. Drawing on some of the best writing and thinking in the fields of leadership, social and organizational change, and ethics, this workshop provides the participants with the concepts and tools necessary for effective ethical leadership and management, with an emphasis on transformative leadership/change management. These tools include an approach to the resolution of the ethical dilemmas inherent in leadership, change agentry, and a wide variety of macro social work practices. Skill Level: Intermediate. *Clinical and Macro Practice. Meets Ethics criteria. Recommended for LMSW.

This webinar examines the process of health care decision making from an ethical perspective by reviewing bioethical principles and applying them to the three primary circumstances in which health care decisions are made.
