  • Assisting the Social Security Disability Applicant: Strategies and Resources (October 2018)

    Description:

    In this workshop, you will learn about the best methods and practices necessary for assisting individuals with either an initial application for Social Security Disability benefits or in appealing an initial denial of benefits to the Federal Administrative Law Judge at a formal hearing. You will also learn about the resources necessary in gathering medical records, compiling applications, completing functional forms, and how Social Security has defined disability. You will develop a better understanding of the processes and procedures required in the development of a disability case so the best information can be provided for the hearing date. CECHs: 2.0

  • Child Development Laboratories

    Description:

    The MSU Child Development Laboratories (CDL) offers programming to children eighteen months to five years of age. We offer half-day academic year preschool as well as full-day, year-round preschool. 

    The CDL takes an active role in outreach, welcoming practitioners from across the state, country, and world to visit the labs, sharing information about their work in supporting children's development in all domains, and modeling exemplary practice in support of children's social development.  Students and Early Childhood professionals benefit by the exemplary research-driven program within which university students can observe and practice developing skills; being included in a comprehensive Early Childhood educational program, which includes integration of literacy across the domains, the use of anti-bias curriculum, and advocacy for children; being supported in his or her professional development in an emotionally safe environment; and receiving written and oral feedback.  

    Students are supported in their professional development through conference presentations. Staff share their expertise through workshops, publications, and observational tours of their classrooms. Teachers can also complete their required number of hours for their Early Childhood Endorsement (ZS) at the Child Development Laboratories.

  • Small Changes, Big Differences: Aging in Place with a Disability (September 2018)

    Description:

    Explore the effectiveness of assistive technology in helping older adults and people with disabilities maintain or obtain their independence. During this interactive workshop, you will have the ability to use and see many different low-tech devices that can impact independence and address bathing, grooming, cooking, eating, safety, hearing, memory, vision, mobility, recreation and more. You will also learn about the programs offered across the state through the Michigan Assistive Technology Program. CECHs: 2.0

  • Youth and Suicide: Understanding and Managing Risk (October 2018)

    Description:

    A client suicide is a clinician’s worst nightmare. As anxiety, depression, and self-harm in our youth rise across America at alarming rates, so does the risk of suicide. Understanding and managing this risk is a many-nuanced skill set that is critical to your clinical practice. This workshop will explore risk factors, risk assessment, and safety planning with clients when dealing with suicide risk. Group activities and role plays will be used to help you develop and practice relevant skills in understanding and managing this risk. CECHs: 6.0
