  • Food Aid Packaging Solutions Workshop Series (August 2018)

    Description:

    Gathering key food aid stakeholders to discuss the status of food aid commodity packaging, challenges, new technological advances, potential solutions, and identify next steps in optimizing food aid packaging. The workshop should result in a report outlining specific steps to address current challenges using readily available technologies (2018), as well as research and innovation opportunities within the next two years (2018-2020).

    This workshop will offer full insight in all aspects of food packaging including function, materials, systems and processes, shelf life estimation, active packaging, modified atmosphere packaging, distribution, food security and more!  You will leave this course better prepared to implement functional design elements and sustainability practices to your company’s packaging and related operations.

  • Health Care Packaging Immersion Experience (October 2019)

    Description:

    The Healthcare Packaging Immersion Experience is a unique educational event that brings together medical device packaging professionals and healthcare practitioners in a state-of-the-art healthcare simulation facility at Michigan State University (MSU). Participants at this conference will:

    • Study the performance of medical device packaging in the operating room and emergency department environments.
    • Interact and exchange ideas with experienced patient care teams currently working in the industry.
    • Address current trends, needs, problems and solutions in medical device packaging.
  • Making It In Michigan Annual Conference and Trade Show (November 2018)

    Description:

    Conference attendees will leave the conference equipped with the practical knowledge and industry resources needed to move an idea from the concept stage to a finished and marketable product. Attendees will be able to corroborate and refine business ideas, connecting with industry experts offering insights and tips on managing the common hurdles often encountered by food companies, including food safety, production, working with co-packers, marketing and supply chain issues.  

  • Master of Science in Packaging (Online)

    Description:

    The Master of Science in Packaging is a 30-credit, online program, designed to give a broad education in packaging and to strengthen skills in analyzing social, scientific, environmental, and business problems associated with packaging. The program includes classes in medical packaging, advanced packaging dynamics, permeability and shelf life, polymeric packaging materials, stability and recyclability of packaging materials, and value relationships in packaging. This Plan B (non-thesis) program requires completion of 30 credits and can be completed in about three years by averaging one course per semester including summer semesters. The time commitment for an online course averages 10 to 15 hours per week.

     

  • Packaging Contract Research and Testing Services

    Description:

    MSU's School of Packaging offers routine, fee-based testing services for industry. At least sixteen tests are offered, including drop testing, vibration testing, oxygen permeability, Izod impact testing, and others. Other testing services and contract research are available in many areas of package analysis and evaluation.
