  • Agricultural Industries Certificate Program

    Description:

    This 18-month program integrates a wide range of disciplines including business, leadership, technology and communications through hands-on laboratory learning and classroom formats.  Of the 48 credits required for the Certificate, 30 are for required classes and the remaining 18 credits can vary with area of interest including agronomy, animal science, horticulture, welding and mechanics.  It is possible for students to complete the Agricultural Industries Certificate and transfer on to a four-year degree program. This program consists of both on-campus learning and hands-on experiences through a professional internship. The program also allows students the flexibility to focus on agronomy, horticulture, animal science or agricultural business.

    Description:

    New farm businesses provide jobs, income and increased economic and social stability, and increased food security to rural and other communities. Providing basic, practical information to people interested in or already engaging in new farm enterprises helps these small businesses develop sound production and marketing plans. Participants will get an overview of a variety of farming enterprises and topics, and have an opportunity through live, online chat to ask questions of MSU and other agriculture experts.

    Description:

    The Environmental Science and Policy Program has launched a symposium series to explore the challenges and opportunities we face in enhancing human well-being while protecting the environment. This symposium will bring distinguished thinkers from around the world to explore what we know, what we need to know and what we must do as we move into a century of unprecedented environmental change, technological advancement and scale of human activity. The event will include research focused seminars and discussion but will emphasize events and presentations that will speak to the broader MSU and Michigan community. In addition to live events and webcasts, the symposium will generate educational materials that can be used in classes and non-traditional education in the spring and beyond.

  • From the Ground Up: Improving Soil Health in Africa through Partnership (April 2019)

    Description:

    This symposium aims to share the most current research by MSU faculty and students on soil health. The two major goals of the symposium are to share the research work with the general public; and bring collaboration opportunities for faculty and students from different scientific disciplines. The symposium will be part of the Africa R&D Connect series and composed of a keynote, oral and poster presentations.

  • Global Food Law Master's Degree Program (Online)

    Description:

    Earning a master’s of Food Law is a strategic investment in your future.  The Michigan State University College of Law Global Food Law Program gives lawyers, regulators and other industry professionals the tools they need to succeed in a constantly changing market.  

    The entirely online program can be completed in about three years by taking one course per semester and studying year-round.  Online study allows students to pursue their master’s degree without the need to take a leave of absence from work or relocate.  Advisors help students enroll in courses that will best enhance their careers allowing students to choose from a menu of courses.

    Description:

    Michigan State University Extension will host the Food and Drug Administration-defined Produce Safety Alliance Grower Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) certification course at various locations. Those interested in learning about Good Agricultural Practices (GAP‘s), produce safety, co-management, and the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule are invited to participate.  (Chose one site.)

  • Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP)

    Description:

    The Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) is an innovative, proactive, and voluntary program that helps farms of all sizes and all commodities voluntarily prevent or minimize agricultural pollution risks.  This program is designed to reduce farmers’ legal and environmental risks through a three-phase process: 1) education; 2) farm-specific risk assessment; and 3) on-farm verification that ensures the farmer has implemented environmentally sound practices. The program’s three systems — Farmstead ,Cropping and Livestock — each examine different aspects of the farm. After becoming MAEAP verified, a farm can display a MAEAP sign signifying that MAEAP partners recognize the farm is environmentally assured.
