    Description:

    The mission of the Building Trades Academy is to provide educational programs that offer useful and practical skill building for Building Trades union staff and leadership and capacity building for their unions.

    The learning objectives in the classes offered by the Academy are focused on building the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for participants to effectively fulfill specific staff and leadership roles within their unions. To those ends, the Academy offers classes in organizing, negotiating, teaching techniques and labor law in the construction industry.

    These four- or five-day residential seminars, led by skilled practitioners and educators, are conducted in an atmosphere of solidarity. Nearly all are conducted in conference/educational centers owned and operated by Building Trades affiliated unions and their union employer partners.

  • Master of Science in Management, Strategy and Leadership Program (Online)

    This online master of science program is built on the latest thinking in management, strategy and leadership. The curriculum incorporates useful and practical knowledge balanced across key components of leadership excellence: human resource management and development, team and organizational leadership, and strategic management. This program was designed by top management researchers from the AACSB-accredited Broad College of Business who are dedicated to challenging students to develop forward-thinking solutions to some of the most important issues impacting organizations. The program consists of 15 five-week courses, which can be completed completely online in 20 months.

    Description:

    This highly interactive two-day program is designed to improve your understanding and ability to master the skill of negotiation and enhance the competitive position of your organization by drawing on the latest research in negotiation, influence and decision-making. You will gain expertise in diagnosing negotiation situations, knowing what strategies to apply in that given situation, maximizing power position, creating opportunities for joint gains, and developing trade-offs that lead to mutually beneficial agreements. The feedback and discussion sessions following each case will reinforce our newly acquired skills.

    Description:

    Taught by MSU’s master’s-level faculty, two eight-week online courses focus on the opportunities presented by change as well as the proper timing for implementation. They reveal best practices for change management, including gaining support from the workforce, reshaping organizational culture, overcoming politics, and mobilizing individuals and teams to complete initiatives. You’ll take two required courses in succession - Leadership Effectiveness and Strategic Change Leadership - and earn 7 Continuing Education Units (3.5 CEUs per course).
