  • Sport Coaching and Leadership Graduate Certificate Program (Online)

    Graduate education can greatly enhance your professional experience as a sport coach, athletic director, recreational sport director, or leader in a sport-related field.  The online graduate courses in sport coaching and leadership at Michigan State University are taught by experts in their relative fields.  These online courses are designed with the working professional in mind, allowing for flexibility in scheduling when and how you complete assignments and learning activities.  Our instructors take special care to design learning activities that will help you to apply abstract concepts to your every-day work as a sport coach or leader of a sport program.

    MSU's Department of Kinesiology has developed the Sports Skills Program for children and adults with disabilities who reside in the greater Lansing area. The program offers coaching and instruction in sports skills. Sports offerings vary with semester. with an opportunity to improve their skill and fitness, whether they are preparing for competition or are simply interested in having fun and achieving better health and physical well-being.

    Description:

    This Summer Intensive that focuses on community-engaged research and community-engaged teaching and learning, including service-learning and community-based research in classes. The Summer Intensive is composed of interactive workshops, lunches in disciplinary clusters and with senior community-engaged scholars, dialogue with community partners, and time to develop your own community engagement plan for your return to campus.

    Description:

    The Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning is an online professional development program for current educators and practitioners from a variety of professional settings and disciplines. The course offerings facilitate comprehensive understanding of the social and cultural contexts encountered by adult learners. In addition,
    participants develop knowledge and skills necessary for planning, facilitating, and leading educational programs.  

  • Teaching and Training Techniques Workshop (Onsite)

    Description:

    The training needs of organizations that undergo a significant change process are great. The training can be as extensive as team-based problem solving skills delivered in multiple iterations to the entire workforce or they can be narrowly defined to meet the needs of a particular work group within the organization. This workshop is designed to help individuals within the organization to acquire the knowledge and skills required to serve effectively as internal trainers and facilitators.
    In this workshop, participants will learn to apply the principles of adult learning to all phases of teaching, training and facilitation. They will learn to plan and develop curriculum, to conduct a training session and to evaluate a session's process and outcomes. The workshop will reinforce the understanding that the bulk of the work in conducting an effective training or education program occurs prior to the event taking place.

  • The New Centennial Review

    Description:

    MSU's College of Arts and Letters and University Press offer The New Centennial Review. This journal, issued three times a year, is devoted to comparative studies of the Americas. The journal publishes scholarly, theoretically-driven work, with an emphasis on the region's possible futures.

  • The Writing Center

    Description:

    MSU's Writing Center, in the College of Arts and Letters, collaborates in on-going conversations about writing in a supportive atmosphere. The Writing Center offers K-12 Writing Consultancy that currently consists of two projects.

    Write For Your Life Housed in the MSU Writing Center, the Write For Your Life (WFYL) project offers teachers and students in Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, Georgia, Texas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania an opportunity to share their writing and thinking as they examine local issues that influence student health, literacy, and learning. In project CONNECTS, the Center is developing a practice called consultative teaching that combines collaborative learning, peer tutoring, service-learning, student research, and jointly-conducted student-faculty research.

    Greenrock The Red Cedar Writing Project offers middle and high school students an opportunity to participate in a campus Writers’ Retreat where the students examine their own and their peers' writing.

  • Tollgate Education Conference Center (Novi, MI)

    Description:

    The MSUE - Tollgate Education Conference Center functions as a full service meeting facility ideal for the business and educational community. Situated on a beautiful 160 acre farm, the gardens and pastures at Tollgate provide a natural and peaceful setting for business meetings, receptions, retreats, conferences, workshops and educational classes. The Center includes the Tollgate Conference room which accommodates up to 140 people; the Activity Center, a more casual setting accommodates up to 60 people; the Americana Boardroom, an executive-style formal meeting room for 12 or less; and the Bassett Boardroom for 10 people. Tollgate’s main site feature is the historic Tollgate Barn which is available for rental for various functions offering it’s unique charm and atmosphere.

  • Tours of the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory

    Description:

    The NSCL offers middle and high school teachers and students guided tours of the Laboratory. Visitors may watch a video tape that describes the NSCL's two cyclotrons and their use in nuclear science research. The tours are available for groups of 10 - 50 people.

    Archivists from University Archives & Historical Collections (UAHC) visit K–12 classrooms for no charge provided that they are within a reasonable driving distance from East Lansing. Our archivists can bring primary resources to show students and talk to them about a variety of topics.

  • Vietnam Study Guide for K-12 Educators

    Description:

    Understanding Vietnam: Beyond the War provides resources for the K-12 classroom that are focused on modern Vietnam’s culture, arts, and history in a context that emphasized the country’s contemporary status as a dynamic Southeast Asian society rather than its bitter wartime past. These resources aim to: (1) teach participants about Vietnamese culture, environment, and educational systems, (2) develop a curriculum guide and multimedia material to assist in integrating international studies into the K-12 classroom, and 3) thereby developing critically-needed awareness of human diversity and strengthening cultural competencies of Michigan educators and students.

  • Virtual Museum Science Field Trips

    Description:

    The MSU Museum offers a Virtual Outreach Program for teachers who want to provide their students with fun and meaningful learning experiences without the expense, permission forms, and geographic limitations of ordinary field trips. These exciting virtual field trips use videoconferencing technology to bring the expertise of professionals right into the classroom. Students, teachers, and museum staff can all see and hear each other via the video and voice connections, and because everything happens in real time, it's almost like being there. The field trips are based on science curriculum areas and follow the Michigan Curriculum Standards, making them easy to fit into existing lesson plans.

    Description:

    MSU’s W.K. Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) Conference Center, located on beautiful Gull Lake in southwest Michigan, is a year-round, full-service facility able to meet the conferencing needs of groups from 2 to 200. As a part of MSU’s largest off-campus educational complex, the KBS Conference Center offers an atmosphere that is conducive to serious discussions, informal brainstorming, or relaxing walks through the grounds. Amenities include full food service and several lodging options. Audiovisuals presentations range from simple flip charts and pointers to a satellite receiver system.

    Description:

    MSU's Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) is one of North America's premier inland field stations. Located between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, KBS is known for its contributions to ecological science and evolutionary biology. KBS's mission is to develop programs in research, education, and extension directed toward a comprehensive understanding of natural and managed ecosystems and the conservation of natural resources. KBS is a field site for ecological research not only because of its excellent facilities but also because of the exceptional diversity of field research sites that are readily accessible from the station. Much of the habitat and species diversity that characterize the upper Midwest can be found in the local area. KBS provides educational tours of the Manor House, Bird Sanctuary and Kellogg Farm, as well as many events and workshops for K-12 educators, students, and the general public.
