Transgender individuals face numerous barriers to receiving sensitive, high quality healthcare services. In particular, elderly or aging transgender individuals may have unique health concerns and may be vulnerable to bias, discrimination, and other negative experiences in inpatient, long term care, or other healthcare settings. This workshop will highlight common concerns for aging transgender individuals seeking healthcare, as well as, what social workers can do to promote culturally sensitive practices in both clinical care and through improving organizational policies and procedures.
